Wtf

http://phatcycles.com/Phattitude/phixie.htm

Why in the hell did they put a single brake on the back?

frantik 07-23-11 02:55 PM

probably the guy who built the bike thought it looked cool? that's usually why most things are done on a fixed gear bike..

other possibility is it's got a flip flop hub and the rear brake will allow for skids when freewheeling?

BlueRaleigh 07-23-11 03:05 PM

Hmmm. Someone was selling one on Craigslist and the brake position caught my attention. I've never seen a single brake on the back before.

frantik 07-23-11 03:06 PM

i've seen fixed gears with pretty much every brake configuration....

Why not? Did you see the rest of their lineup?

Form over function, my friend.

I don't know how many times people have looked at my bike with one brake and asked, "Hey wouldn't it be safer if you put your one brake on the back?"

TejanoTrackie 07-23-11 04:24 PM

Needs a muckybrake. Yeah !

calv 07-23-11 04:56 PM

If they really wanted to do that, they should have gone old school and used a spoon brake. :)

This is why i bike in biking shorts only. One look at my diamond cut leg muscles and nobody is asking to see where my brakes are.

Greyryder 07-24-11 12:44 AM

Everybody knows that a front brake will just make you fly over the bars, instead of stopping.

coma061 07-24-11 02:11 AM

A rear brake is the law in most states. One brake, capable of skidding on dry and flat ground is required on "any" bike. And it's hard to skid with a front brake alone. Hence the coaster brake cruisers being totally legal.
Anyway, back to fun and games... It's to help the newbies that can't skid with leg power alone!

Because people don't understand how physics works.
