Hey, my friend wants to try out fixed gear. her other frame has a bent top tube so she just wants a cheap frame that she can transfer the parts to from her other bike, cuz they are actually pretty decent parts. so all she needs is a cheap frame and a hub. and i was wondering what you guys know about this frame. it doesnt seem too bad for the price they are selling it for. thanks

is her other bike a road bike? Are the parts compatible ie headset, bb, threadless stem? ALL she needs besides the frame is a hub? Is she going to try to rebuild a wheel using the spokes she already has because it's not going to work.

but to answer your question, for $70 sure why not.

oh sorry, i was gonna build the wheel, and i forgot to mention spokes. but yes, i have checked her parts, and i am fairly sure they should all be transferrable. the only iffy thing will be to see if we can get a straight chainline, but it shouldnt be a big problem. so all she needs is a frameset, hub/spokes or rear wheel and maybe a BB or spindle

I was reading somewhere that track frames/forks might not be good for road SS because track frames/forks are not designed to accommodate the forces of front brakes. Is this true? If so, how do I find a frame for a SS that would be able to handle front brakes?

You should be fine.

There's a lot of funny things people do with track bikes that are 'not too healthy,' but it typically holds up well. Front braking stress will most likely not be an issue.

I bought one of these a couple weeks ago, good deal because you get a headset bottom bracket and seatpost, its slightly heavy but not too bad. Id say buy it.

EDIT: I just looked at your link again and noticed there was no headset/bottom bracket. So you should fgre out if her bottom bracket/headset will fit.

for between 5-20 bucks you can get a nice "conversion kit" that'll have all the spacers you'd need for adjusting the cogs and making the chainline work.

A conversion kit is for a cassette hub. I think if the chainline is wonky you'd have to either put the chainring on the inside of the crank or re-dish your wheel. It might just be easier to buy a rear wheel on craigslist or ebay.

When I converted my old road bike, I found a used wheel for $20 bucks. Just swap everything over at first then you can update/upgrade stuff as needed.

It's not just for cassette hubs, they do make ringed spacers for both freewheels and freehubs also (harder to track down for sure) but they do exist. And usually they have the other bits you'll need so you won't just die after installing them :D
