Phases

I have not ridden my fixed gear in several weeks. Currently, I have just been riding my road bike and haven't really even given thought to my fixed gear. I don't dislike fixed gear but the desire to ride it has diminished (that's what it feels like since I went ten speed) Today I put a rear brake on my fixed gear to try and get myself to do something with it.

I have had my share of times when I had to exclusively ride fixed because I broke something on my road bike. It now feels like I haven't ridden my road bike in ages or i haven't had enough saddle time on it.

How often do any of you go through phases like this? If ever.

Personally I haven't ridden my FG in a couple weeks as well. I've been glued to my cdale lately and I have to say I really like it.

Changing up a routine is always good; as soon as you will know it you'll be back on your fixed gear.

You can things to your fixed gear to spice things up/ make it more attractive/ appealing to ride. I.e. upgrades/ borrowing parts from your roadie.

the only bike i own is a fixed gear, so i dont really have the option to ride anything different. that being said, i really have no desire to ride anything else. i feel so much more in control on a fixed gear, plus i love being able to ride no handed and still control my speed.

I've recently only had seat time on my Madone. About 200 miles in the last week. I've ridden my T1 about 6 miles. I used to love riding that bike, but now that I'm used to the quickness of my Madone, I really dont want to ride my t1. Guess i'll have to throw some parts at it to get me excited to ride it again. I love love love my T1 btw. As you said, just going through phases...

The guy I've been riding with rides around 14mph average. I find that if I go out on my road bike, I tend to spin quite a bit but I don't quite feel like I am getting the work out I would prefer. When I take out the Prez it feels much better, and I definitely feel like I can concentrate on my pedal stroke a lot more. That being said, I feel quite good passing people but the momentium from passing takes quite a while to slow down to a comfortable pace.

They each have their own pros and cons, I'd definitely say I am enjoying riding my fixed more than my road, but things will change soon.

Me too, but I still hang out here cause roadies suck.

The FG is the bike I make most changes on. Bars, pedals, seats, wheels, levers, cranks

I had periods of months where I could only ride my FG and I dreaded those times. The riding was never bad but I hate being stuck on a FG because I use my bikes for everything and FG just isn't ideal for that. I feel the same amount of control with either bike, maybe less on the FG when i have to spin downhill and i don't feel up to it.

I am the opposite

I never even considered riding a fixed gear seriously, I just use it to go around town and commute, any real riding is on my cannondale.

CamelDane 07-30-11 02:48 PM

it is either one or the other for me, someday's I want to ride my steamroller and other days I want to ride my cyclocross. I just finished my summer project two days ago which will probably replace all of the other bikes for now.
