OT: Your other hobbies?

I thought there was an old thread with this topic, but couldn't find it. If someone wants to they can dig it up & this one can be deleted.

Anyways, post your hobbies other than SSFG and spending all your money on bike components

Mine: Badminton (indoor and competitive), tennis, and searching for the perfect sandwich shop :thumb:

Right now I seriously spend all my money on bike stuff and food.

I used to pole vault. I need to get back into that, but clubs are all far and few (and it costs much more than what I spend on bike stuff).

I recently started playing tennis but it's kinda meh for me. I just play because my friends play.

sau 08-01-11 12:15 PM

since I spend most of my week on track bicycle my weekend hobby is riding a road bicycle.

Gotti 08-01-11 12:46 PM

besides cycling, i like longboarding, but recently, I've only used my longboard for quick 7-11 runs.
I also enjoy crossfit.
I also consider myself a cannabis connoisseur. haha
But this year, most of my money has gone to travelling.

I have many interests! Photography, hi - fi audio(yes audiophile stuff; music is included in this category basically, all genres!), cars (I've always enjoyed the pleasures of looking at street/ lifestyle cars, and most importantly exotic cars, even though I probably would never have the guts to go all the way with buying one, I cannot swallow the price and depreciation of one; I do drive a '09 BMW M6 and '05 Subaru sti coupe through), cooking, longboarding (second most space taking sport, so many boards! Basically I had no learning curve because I'm accustomed to skateboarding although longboarding has taken my heart when it comes to four - wheeled human powered vehicles), economics and business management (it's my livelihood), badminton (I think it's my natural born sport; by chance I was in high school and decided to have a foray in it and ended up getting into varsity with ease and later division wins), road cycling (my primary discipline), computer gaming (performance enthusiast), dining (it seems that I like every kind of food!), cinematography, traveling (having adventure and exploring!), and pampering my wife (a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do).

Rugby, Photography, Skiing, Reading.

Used to be a lot more diverse, but I've since tried to simplify.

Also, I lump road, fixed and Mtn riding together into the generic "Bicycle category".

Higher Class 08-01-11 01:51 PM

I play orchestral upright bass, bass guitar, skateboard, drink beer, and work in a kitchen, but bike riding has trumped all of these for a couple of years now. I'm excited to finally get back into a strings ensemble this semester, though. I'm in a ska band right now, but I don't take it very seriously even though we have a show coming up.

nuhtowel 08-01-11 02:00 PM

I play ukulele

soyboy 08-01-11 02:17 PM

i cook, paint, play drums and sing in a country band, sing and play keys+synths in a noisy sludgy band, am teaching myself accordion, go camping, screen-printing, watch shows about ghosts, go to lots of shows, listen to and collect music(hip-hop, metal, punk, jazz, country, pop, noise, rock, almost anything if it's good), and walk around my hood with my best bud(hank the dog)

I played bass guitar all throughout junior high and high school. Played a lot of post rock. I just sold off my pedalboard, cab (hoping to replace it with a little 1x12 some day), and spare bass 'coz I haven't played in so long. Never going to sell my Stingray 5 'til I'm homeless, though...

Telemark skiing, cross country skiing, sailing (race on a j24), disc golf, used to do a lot more, but work, skiing and sailing have taken over a lot of time. I also fix up old motorcycles, have a '67 Triumph chopper (motor currently apart, being rebuilt), '69 cb350, '73 cb450, '85 BMW, and a '58 BSA Scrambler (long term project, every last nut and bolt has been taken apart and bagged/labeled/boxed up). Oh, and beer. Also used to play in a band that was on the road every weekend, couldn't handle it taking my only freetime so, I quit recently.

My list is pretty similar to many of those already posted:

Photography (mostly landscape & street, I still shoot with a Nikon D40)
Travel (every chance I get)
Hiking (any outdoor activity, really)
Cooking (especially fattening foods)
DIY everything (I like to think that I can make or fix almost anything)
Gardening/landscaping (difficult as an urban dweller)

Hothead286 08-01-11 03:59 PM

Transportation is fascinating - planes, trains, automobiles, and those suped up lawnmowers
Marching band
Internet - not the lining in swimsuits
Swimming

fellow badminton player :)

I heard there are tons of nice clubs in Cali, esp in your area. Clubs are pretty sparse in Michigan but I can't complain, we have a great uni club here

Weird, this thread was just started in the roadie forum recently too.

Being self-employed gives me lots of free time for hobbies: photography, drawing (graphite/digital), tattoos (especially "hand-poke" Japanese tebori), Photoshop, Japanese language and culture, aikido, sword-fighting, training and playing with my 2 dogs, hiking, indoor horticulture, MMORPG's, recycling and picking up garbage, eating with chopsticks... I want to learn calligraphy too, but I think I'll wait until I begin learning katakana and kanji.

hamish5178 08-01-11 05:03 PM

Racquetball, cooking (although that's what I do for money now, when classes aren't in session), espresso, gin, bourbon, good beer, I play guitar and have a band at school, I have a cat.

Super Smash Bros. Melee (Marth/Samus/Sheik/Doc Mario)

This is a couple years old, my Fender '59 Reissue Thin-Skin Jazzmaster, which was a graduation present from my parents and will follow me into my coffin, in the background is a '64 Harmony Rocket and a '78 Fender Deluxe Reverb, both of which I no longer own:

My passion is BBQ, real BBQ, not the grilled and covered in sauce crap.
