Schwinn Single?
Saw this bike (orange 700c schwinn singlespeed road bike, label on the side is "single") while poking around. Looked pretty good, though the only specs I could find were pretty wonky and looked like they weren't put up by anyone who knew anything about a bicycle. All I know about the geometry is that the only real review I found was from a 5'7" woman who could just barely stand over it. Tires are "700x1.5" (?) which would be about right if it's close to accurate. Looked like it could be a find if it doesn't have any odd quirks or annoyances to it. At that price, i'd expect uninspiring parts but no horror stories. I couldn't tell from looking at it if it would be anywhere in the ballpark on my fit. Anyone played around with one?

Er...wait, Here's a working link: http://www.target.com/Schwinn-700c-S.../dp/B004U5BZVO Note which site I linked to. That should give you a big clue as to this bike's quality. There's a fairly good chance that you can find a slightly used SS or flip flop hub fixie for about the same price. |
Yeah, I know they have it at Target. I know enough about wrenching to make sure that nothing is messed up on it that the untrained assembly folks miss, and the fact that it's a Schwinn is a plus for what I want it for. For reasons that you JUST NOW HIGHLIGHTED, in fact... So i'm looking for information more detailed than "Uh.. you know they sell those at Target, right?" since I feel that that is actually an asset for a bike that I plan to have parked on a college campus a lot.

It's a plus because everyone knows that Schwinn is sold at box stores and that a lot of people won't even touch them for that reason, ergo, they have uninspiring resale value, ergo, there's most likely going to be bikes that look more valuable all over the place to filch bits off of other than mine. That said, they're some of the best stuff that a box store tends to have, qualitywise. It rides that line between 'low end bike store bike' and 'high end department store bike', while having all the cachet of a wallyworld junker. This is the theory anyways.

EDIT: seriously though. If its what you are looking for, then see if you can find one in a target. |
