skidding while in the drops

hey, i have been riding fixed with track drops on and off and whenever i try to skid while in the drops i used to hit my knees against the ends of the bar and almost lose control, and when that doesnt happen it just feels super awkward like i am super low on the bike. it feels fine skidding while on the top, but i like riding in the drops and the look of the drops, do most people just switch to the top when they are gonna skid or just get used to skidding in the drops?

in drops it's awkward but doable .. when I need to skid it's from the tops. I ride nitto drops.

Kinkikowboi 08-25-11 01:40 PM

nitto bullhorns

I just squeeze my rear brake to skid. Super easy when in the drops

jpsawyer 08-25-11 02:07 PM

okay, that is nice to know that i am not the only who thinks its awkward skidding while in the drops.

rithem 08-25-11 02:09 PM

it depends how deep the drop is ... it's a LOOOOOONNNGGG way down to my drops.

From the Official Street Cred Strategy Guide:

When hands are placed on the top of track drops when entering skidding action street cred multiplier is normal.
When hands are placed in the drops when entering skidding action and held through out duration, multiplier is 3X. Incremental amounts are added to base cred as feminine counterparts are present and attentive to you.

I think skidding from the tops of drops looks nicer. For maximum experience multipliers, skid with bullhorns. Simple, and they stay out of the way, unlike those pesky drops.

bro i pulled like a 25mph skid in track drops...idk it might be easier in mine though because they're njs

what gearing are you running?

fxdgrjedi 08-26-11 06:00 PM

OP - At the risk of sounding like a pretentious jerk and quoting a played-out source, I would direct you toward Rule #5.

kato7997 08-27-11 11:26 PM

handlebar selection based on skidding technique...sweet? bro?

EpicSchwinn 08-28-11 10:35 PM

Interesting. I always prefer skidding in the drops (when I have them) because I feel like I have more control or leverage. My bars are fairly wide so I haven't had issues with bumping the ends. I even have a fairly big saddle to bar drop

Overall though I think it's easiest to skid with bullhorns, especially the long ones.

jpsawyer 08-28-11 11:17 PM

now that i have been riding with the drops for awhile now i am getting used to skidding with them on without hitting the ends, but it still feels a lil awkward skidding while in the drops. but i really like riding while in the drops. so i am thinking about maybe trying out the eighthinch track drops. they seem to have decent drop and seem to be wider than my nitto 123s so they wouldnt get in the way of my knees. anyone ever use these before?
