I love how, for the ending, he finds a cop car in the bike lane. Perfect.

The guy at the end suggests a more effective way to help steal the bike. |
LOL great video. Reminds me of people in Santa Monica/Venice who walk in a bike lane when there's a paved pedestrian walkway right next to it.

[buzzkill]To play devil's advocate, we need to know why he was outside the bike lane to begin with. The law as I find it states (N.Y. VAT. LAW § 1234 : NY Code - Section 1234: Riding on roadways, shoulders, bicycle or in-line skate lanes and bicycle or in-line skate paths):
(a) Upon all roadways, any bicycle or in-line skate shall be driven either on a usable bicycle or in-line skate lane or, if a usable bicycle or in-line skate lane has not been provided, near the right-hand curb or edge of the roadway or upon a usable right-hand shoulder in such a manner as to prevent undue interference with the flow of traffic except when preparing for a left turn or when reasonably necessary to avoid conditions that would make it unsafe to continue along near the right-hand curb or edge. Conditions to be taken into consideration include, but are not limited to, fixed or moving objects, vehicles, bicycles, in-line skates, pedestrians, animals, surface hazards or traffic lanes too narrow for a bicycle or person on in-line skates and a vehicle to travel safely side-by-side within the lane. So, the law says use the bike lane unless it is unusable, then be near the curb and watch out for ****. Watching out for **** implies that you can deviate to say, go around parked cars, semis, construction, cop cars. What is usable I am sure is debatable, but if this guy was ticket for simply not using a bike lane when there was an open one, he has nothing to ***** about. Granted, he should be entitled to unobstructed bike lanes if the obstruction itself is illegal. But saying, "well, other people are breaking the law" is never an excuse to breaking the law. So, anyone know the context of his ticket?[buzzkill] |
he says in the video it wasn't safe to be in the bike lane at that time, you would make a terrible lawyer.

Ah, so the cop was writing a ticket consistent with the law I stated. |
