Where and what should I buy???
Trying to convert my bike to a single speed, so far ive ditched the deraileurs and shortened the chain.....That looks pretty tacky with still having a bunch of cogs on the back and two on the front and my crank keeps coming lose and making cranky crank noises so Im ready to ditch that dumb thing anyways. I was wanting some input on cheap (but not going to snap in half on the first ride cheap) cranks.....Im not made of money but have a few bux to throw around at this. Anywho, Want to replace the back wheel.....What are my options there, do they make 27'' single speed mags? Ive seen fixies with 26'' mags cant find any singles if no then Whats a decent wheelset? for the crank Im currently at 52t and am happy with that gearing, was looking at origin 8 single speed cranks but the biggest I could find had a 46t which I think I will be less then happy with. so what other options do I have for cranks?

Get some Sugino 75 cranks and a Mavic Ellipse rear wheel and you're good to go.

oh when I meant cheap, I was thinking crank set under 100bux? wheel maybe a little north of 100 but well cheaper the better

you could pick up some eighth inch cranks and a bottom bracket for around 80 bucks.
27" "mags" are pretty much a no go. you could find some 26" mag looking wheels but they're not going be quality wheels. 26" wheels are also going to lower you're bottom bracket and change the feel of your bike a bit seeing as your bike is made for 27". you could probably convert to 700c wheels and not have the ride quality effected too much. if you want to stick with 27" wheels, i'd pick up a sun m13 II in 27" and lace it up to a fixed/single speed hub. it's a quality rim and will look much better on a conversion then some mag type wheel. |
