Another ratio thread. Please read before spewing your hate.

I know this might be a newb question, and I apologize. I just read through the GearInch sticky and I do understand it. As of right now, I am running a 75GI, 46/16. I really like that for cruising and riding distance. I was thinking about going to a larger GI, since I have a flip flop, for just doing circles and what-not in my garage. A 46/15 would give me a 80GI and 46/14 would give me an 86GI. My question is, would I notice a big enough difference dropping one tooth off my cog, or should I just drop two and go for the 14t? I'm a newb at this fixed gear thing, so any help would be awesome. Thanks.:thumb:

Everyone likes pictures. It has brakes on it now too.

Get some foot retention and learn how to spin.

Why do you want more gear inches for doing circles in your garage? Most people would want less, I would think.

I would think you would want to go lower for tricks not higher ... 16-20 T ... also you may have issues with chain length etc flipping between 2 diff cogs on that conversion. Any change is noticeable for the most part.

Good thing I asked. Thank you for pointing me in the right direction.

"Newb" on this forum = not knowing how to use the search function apparently.

You will probably feel a noticeable different between 46/15 and 46/14. I used to ride 46/15 around town no problem, seemed pretty comfortable.

"Riding circles in my garage"

What does this mean?!?!?!?!?!

jibberishballr 09-04-11 01:50 PM

i ride 46 16 right now but have a new setup in line. it will be 48 16 which is nice since i used my bike mostly for commuting. I have ridden a setup as low as 39/17 which was fun, but not good for going across town. If you're wanting to do tricks but still make it across town try and get in the low 70's gi. Maybe 46/17. I rode this for a while as well and it was very nice.

Barspinzzz too!

You should get a trainer. Better workout than circles in the garage.

cc700 09-04-11 03:27 PM

welcome to the thunder dome.

I figured dude was an aspiring match sprinter. :)

Damn lookit that floor. If I had a garage floor like that I'd totally spin circles on it all day everyday.
