any advantage for street use?
are they practical? |
yes
|
i'd like to know if its possible( and for all the smart a$$es, by possible i mean effieciently equal to using clips and single straps) to use double straps without clips?
|
Hey Chesty-
The only problem would be making the straps consistently tight enough and properly fitted to ENSURE that your foot is held in place in regards to the pedal platform. The cage helps retain the foot as well as maintain a better foot position on the platform. But I am sure someone has done this before. I, however, prefer to use cages and straps combo'd. |
chesty... that was low. funny, but low.
|
Low? I actually meant it with respect. I call my Marine buddy Brian "chesty" all the time. How is it low? PM me as I don;t want to Fing insult people by calling them chesty.
|
Ha! nah dude im not insulted. Back in the corps whenever someone got tooo motivated about something we'd call him chesty(as in "yeah right, you go clean the head chesty"). No hard feelings at all, i just thought it was funny.
p.s. check your paypal |
yay six replies. boy i sure am informed about double straps now!
|
yay - here you go.
they are the same as single straps, yet double the strappage. The purpose of double straps is to provide better foot retention to sprint racers. As far as street use - I like mine. They are double layered with laminate in between, making them stiffer/stretch is pretty much non-existent. riding them on the street vs velodrome - they work the same. It was more of an availability issue that "will these work better?" - I just wanted a laminated strap and the other sets I saw were of equal price. I think they are a total ddeal as they hold up very well. I got mine for $40 as I had overstretched a cheap set of singles and I no longer wanted to F around. For new ones - I found mine on eBay from BensCycle, or you can go here: http://businesscycles.com/trcomp.htm#straps |
Double straps are good to go! Just make sure you get use to them before tightening them down hard.
YES I THInk CHESTy would use them if he rode! S/F< CEYA! |
Why not just use Powerstraps?

how much is there, on double straps? i think the biggest diff would be less folding, crumbling and fondling of the straps at lights? i am not sure but i am getting some and then you will get so much info the board might choke on it.. bored?.. ;) |

i just use two single straps on each pedal. one laced through the back holes of the pedal (regular position), and one laced through the front holes of the pedal to hold my toes. all that strappage works pretty well for me.
oh...metal toe clips too. |
my current set-up

Thanks for the picture. You answered what was to be my question as to how the doubles are used in the cage and pedal.
|
not sure if this is the official way, but it works for me. I have seen a different set-up where the straps are diagonal
|
165 - do you tighten them down all the way while street riding? is it more of a pain in the ass to losen two? (can you do it quickly now without even thinking about it? how many times did you fall over at lights, etc getting used to it?) im surprised you dont have tabs on the strap ends..
