Newer brake onto old fork?
 

i have a new shimano 105 front brake that i want to use on my fixed gear bike. There is one large problem though. The way the brakes are designed is that the nut actually goes into the whole in the frame as an internal nut and the bolt doesnt go all the way threw. Now my problem with that with it being an older frame/fork the nut wont fit into the whol in the fork. Ive heard two options to fix this. one being that i drill the hole slightly bigger so the nut can fit threw to the bolt and the other is to find a new bolt that reached all the way threw. Any advise on what i should do? Thanks

drill it

be sure only to drill the hole on the back of the fork ... you might need to use a 2 diff size bits and go up one at a time so the drill doesn't jam up and fly out of your mitts

Recessed nut is so much better than having a bolt sticking out on the back of the fork.

if you don't want to drill the fork you can just insert the nut through the bottom of the steerer and tighten it from there. should be fine.

++ Drill. There's no downside, unless the bike is highly collectible.

Drilling the back of the fork is not that hard... just match the drill bit to the OD (outer diameter) of the narrow sleeve and take your time doing it.

If the recessed nut is short enough you can insert it through the bottom of the steerer with an allen wrench and mount it from there.

It's just a fuji royal ii frame from early 80s. I feel it would be better to drill because it would have to direct contact points with the fork other than one with kist inserting it threw the bottom of the steerer
