Brake cable question

I bought some used levers and need to know which brake cable I should use that's safe.

The bigger end?:

Or the smaller one?:

Or does it not matter?

It doesn't really matter, as long as the cable isn't going to slip through that part of the lever.

I think the way I've most seen it done is with the smaller end so that it sort of fits into that little hole.

I could be wrong though.

The smaller one looks alot cleaner and it doesn't slip through.

Although, I have seen some pictures where people use the bigger end. Unless they used the same brake cables.

I would like to use the smaller end but would like to know if its recommended or not.

Are you sure that isn't a shifter cable? I guess it doesn't make a difference if it works

I don't even know which one's which. I bought the wally world brake and gear cable set.

The second pic is a shifter cable, which may look better but isn't as strong as a brake cable. I've used one temporarily because it was all I had on hand at the time but I don't really recommend it.

Remove the rubber insert on the lever body and use the brake cable.

Did you even read my post?

Here it is again with the parts you should pay attention to in bold:

You posted your comment right before I posted mines but I did read it. That's why I deleted my previous comment.

You're too fast.

There's really no point on removing the rubber insert. The ball still sticks out just like the picture.

Thanks for everyones help. I will be going with the bigger one.

Ah, ok.

I wasn't telling you to remove the insert to help the end go in further, I told you to remove it because it's just going to get squished and fall out in pieces anyway.

Oh ok. Thanks for the tip.
