Dear Scrod,

Why did you not sticky all the threads?

And, If you could impart a small ounce of wisdom regarding successful business, what would it be?
I want to sell Cyclocross stuff to people cheaply a la retrogression but I have no startup capital or e-sense. What is the one thing I should work on?

I actually read all 4 pages of this before posting, just to check if anyone else had already made that joke... lulz.

No. I really liked the power transfer but disliked clipping in/out all the time enough to go back to my Wellgos & doubles.

I started Bikeage without putting any money into it. Zero dollars off the top. Literally.

For those who weren't around then, I made some Sheldon Brown shirts for myself and a few friends back when I was working as a screen printer, posted a pic of mine on SSFG and everyone wanted them. In order to find a way to sell shirts with Sheldon's image on them that I felt good about, I contacted MassBike and agreed to donate a lot of the proceeds to them. I put up a rinky-dink website featuring the Sheldon shirts and a few others I whipped up and people were buying them like crazy. It's funny to see how far it's come since we had only three shirts for sale on the site.

All it really takes is common sense, a LOT of free time and the right set of ethics. The lesson my dad taught me about never learning anything without getting some dirt under your fingernails totally applies here too, as I've managed to learn a lot by doing things the hard way and doing a whole lot of grunt work myself. The hardest part about running a shop which operates solely online is finding distributors who will cater to you without having an actual brick & mortar physical location. That's why we sometimes have trouble getting certain things - because we're working with smaller distributors who don't stock as much as giants like QBP and Hawley (who won't give us the time of day). I don't want to give away too many trade secrets publicly but if you want to e-mail me, we'll continue the discussion. :)

Here's a pic taken the day after:

BTW - "Sweet & Dandy" is a song by reggae legends Toots and the Maytals.

Dear Scrod,

Those letters are pretty straight. Are you sure you were very drunk when you did that?

Dude, that TV show sucks. My grandfather used to make me watch it when I was a kid.

Yeah, it's crazy...especially considering I did it upside down. I'm a perfectionist, even when I'm wasted.

Learn how business have to work legally and get things set up. Figure out what type of corporation your business needs to be, get your tax ID number, and get your workplace legal. Not only does it keep you out of trouble with the law, it gets you in the door with suppliers and financial institutions. Make a business plan. Don't know how to make one? Find out. You'd be amazed at how many people thing you can open a business by just starting a website or slapping a name on a building.

If you're fuzzy on some details, try selling here and there on eBay, Etsy, and the like before going whole hog.

- Not Scrod

I have an early 2011 725 and haven't had any issues with mine. I think a lot of the reported "problems" have a lot do with either Leader hate or people not knowing how to use tools correctly - or both.

But yeah...as hamfoh said, the new version has a separate, replaceable seat collar.

I need a new crankset/bb. I'm looking for low maintenance but with pretty high durability, cuz at 6'5"/210lbs. I'm not a small guy. I'd like crankarms that are around 172.5 cuz that's what I have and they're comfortable. Pretty sure I have a 62mm shell. Here's the kicker, seeing as I'm gonna be buying the tools to do the swap myself, I'm not gonna have a ton of cash to throw around, so no om-nom-noms and no 75s, even though I really want the 75s. This will be the first non-factory part on the bike, so it's kind of a big deal that I get something decent. Currently rockin FSA Vero. Aesthetics aren't super important, but given the option I want black.

Lay it on me, brah.
