Looking for a new frame
I'm turning my old Raleigh conversion into a 1x8, and I'm planning to transfer the fixed-gear parts from it onto a new frame. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what frame I should buy? I'm looking for a steel frame, I don't want anything too track-ish, and I'll be using it for quite long rides so bottle cage mounts would be nice. Basically, I want a road bike that just happens to be fixed-gear. Are there any new frames that I could get for a reasonable price that fit that description, or would another conversion be the easiest way?
Thanks in advance |
I have been told that IRO fixed gear frames have pretty roadish geometry. It also has only one bottle mount on the seat tube however, but there are ways of mounting others. It has enough room for fenders, and can run pretty much any size 28c tire. I've seen a few people fit in 32c (depending on the size).
The frame is $250 if I remember. The only bummer is they are on vacation until November. :( |

Since you're in the UK, I'd get an On One. I bought my wife an On One Inbred and for the price, the quality is awesome.
I've also enjoyed my Steamroller, which the only advantage I see of going with the Steamer is bigger tire clearance. (I can fit 700x38). |
or go here: http://www.lfgss.com/search.php?searchid=9909871 and buy an incredible frameset for a really nice price. Not new but there are always some sweet frames up for sale!

Thanks in advance -Durable frame -Dual bottle mounts -Relaxed geo, not at all "tarck-ish" If you want it to look like a road bike then just flip the wheel to fixed gear and buy some drops and hoods. Simple as that. |
