The winter / beater build.
 

My wheel set came in the mail today, threw them on the build I'm starting for a winter-daily-beater. The frame is from my first bike I bought as a young adult, so it holds some sentimental value and I'm glad it will see the road again after sitting. The rest of the parts should be in by next week sometime. It's not much to look at, but this thread will be devoted to the hopefully short build progress. So more to come... This is the start: (The goof stem is just to hold it all together, already got a replacement on the way!).

B43 for a beater bike? Wow. I always assumed beater bikes were cheap and easily replaced. What's on your nice rig?

At $200 a set they are easily replaceable. I wanted to show this frame some love while still using relatively conservative components. My ''nice'' rig isn't anything to brag about... but I'd rather not leave it outside for 8+ hours a day at work under the Arizona sun for whatever unjustifiable reason. This is it:

Wow $200 a set? With Formula hubs they're still at $250 here. Also, your winter and mine are a lot different. I didn't know you were in AZ. I rig the nice rig. SE Racing ftw.

On a sidenote, the ideal beater wheelset to me is a DP18. A little heavy, but durable and cheap.

Your beater bike is my dream bike. How sad is that!

I agree, the DP18's are a great set to toss around without feeling guilty. I've got a set of them laying around. Now that you mentioned it I think I'll refinish them, throw on some bigger tires and make a set of rain wheels out of them.

Little update: Headset, stem, shims, and chain came in today...

Went down to the local co-op and installed the headset. Rolled it back home and threw on the stem. *Handle bars and seat post are just for temporary mock up to get an idea*

It is so obvious from looking at the bike that you don't actually have winter.

Pretty much... lol. It's more of an excuse to build up another bike hahaha. We do get winter rains, monsoons just ended, and parts of Northern Arizona get more snow than the rest of the country. Flagstaff got over 130'' a year ago. I'll stop trying to justify my addiction now :) I probably should have named the thread something else since looking back. Then again I didn't figure that I'd catch grief about building a bike. Oh well.

Cool story brah. Next time you feel the need to point out something ''obvious''... don't. Winter is the nicest part of the year overall, so I'm building a daily bike around that. Thanks for your input. Next time I only hope it holds more water, rather than re-stating what the people above you have.

el oh el. Did you suck him off after you realized you had the same thought? Can we get over the name of the thread anytime soon? As I stated this is a winter-beater-daily build. I'm building it to be daily ridden in whatever weather this winter has to offer... and it's not always dry. Next ignorant reply?

Was there something you wanted when you posted this thread? There isn't a question in the original post and most of the responses seem to be clarifying what you mean by "winter/beater bike". Did you want opinions on what you are picking out or something? You already seem to have much of what you want so I would just put it together and put a pic on the adriano thread or something.

Your right. I wasn't looking to GET anything out of this thread. Just thought I'd share progress on my build, as stated in the first post I made... never mind.

Hey doomride, chill out. You're new here, and there is a bit of hazing in this forum. It's mostly just friendly jesting, so don't take it so damned personally. Now that that's settled, bike looks rad. Keep the pics coming, and keep giving me reasons to be jelly of your (apparently) disposable extra income.

::EDIT:: Upon closer inspection, I'm digging the faux-threadless stem. Like, I dig that thing a lot. Is the heater bike an SE too? Possibly an old Lager?
