Buy a brake. Learn to slow down with your legs. Save money on tire replacement by not skidding.

i've been on a fixed gear bike for a while and have ridden bikes my whole life. i have a 49/18 and mostly stop with leg resistance and a brake when needed. never really learned how to skid properly, i kinda gave up on it. every time i try to do it i lock the back wheel but cant keep it locked, ie ill skid for like a second and then it forces me back into rotation. i also only try it sitting, not really trying to lean forward over my bars, i think thats kinda silly. maybe my retention just isnt adequate, or maybe im inadequate... i didnt think i was that weak...

You should know by now that this is a community built upon hazing. Seriously though, if you wanna skid, get stronger, get a lower ratio, get slick skinny tires, practice form on grass, and make sure you always have a spare tube and tire in your bag.

Also, no need to double-post.

You can only answer the same (dumb) question so many times before it gets old.

The coefficient of static friction is greater than the coefficient of kinetic friction anyway.
