Black track cranks?

Does anyone make black track cranks? Aside from those funky FSA cranks, that is. I painted my (converted road) crankset black and it looks sweet, so I'm hoping someone makes another black track crank (never been a fan of the FSA crankset).

My spider is a black 165mm superbe crank - don't think it's specifically track though. But my Q is pretty tight.

Ohh I was just looking at my silver road cranks with the black chain ring last night thinking that the cranks would look better if they were black. I never even thought of painting. Do you need a special kind of paint and/or prep work for the cranks?

You'll definately be riding with more power those PowerStroke cranks. Wonder if the FMF stands for the same thing as the FMF motorcycle line?

I used Dupli-Color spray paint on mine, which seems a lot more durable than Krylon stuff. What I did was to sand the crankarms, prime them, and then put on a couple coats of the Dupli-Color low-gloss black that's made for engine parts and is apparently ceramic in some sense. Really nice finish. When it starts to wear, I may strip and re-paint them, this time using the self-etching primer if I can find it. If you use the same kind of paint I did, just make sure you let it cure long enough to harden properly.

you are all my bewilder beasts.
why would you want a crank ( a piece of metal in a tough spot ) to be covered in paint?

scratches?
cracks?
and to stick my dic* in the pie.. : weight!!

Because I (we?) like the color. Same reasons a frame is painted. If I had the means or could find a local place with reasonable rates, I'd just have all the appropriate aluminum parts anodized black. But, that's not an option so paint it is.

I have used Zissner alcohol-based "stain-killer" primer on a bash guard I made out of 11 gauge aluminum sheet. It's holding up just fine, not flaking off at all. I don't know if this is available in a spray can, however.

I know the '03 are black but they are not true track cranks. They are Truvativ Elita road double cranks with a single ring on the inside of the spider.

When you're done, you should send it in to the duplicolor website. They have a big section on customer projects.

The idea of anodizing is interesting. I think I may follow this up as a home project
https://www.focuser.com/atm/anodize/anodize.html
https://www.mini-lathe.com/Anodizing/...g_aluminum.htm

I'm not sure if something like this https://www.brownells.com/aspx/NS/Sto...ALUMINUM+BLACK
requires a previously anodized surface. Looks like it does, though.

I've been on the lookout for a long time, and am of the opinion that decent black cranks can't be found. (I posted about this a while back too).

I'm resigned that the thylacine will have Sugino 75's or if I get unexplicably rich, a Campy set up.

Get some track cranks powder coated black. I have some Gipemme track cranks that are dark purple metallic powder coat, done in colorado springs, probably at spectrum. I picked them up cheap at the veloswap here, haven't had a chance to put them on anything yet.

You are soo much a slave to fashion.
Paint them 80's neon pink or 70's tie-dyed to be different.
