creaky knees and other aches

okay. this has been going on for far too long, and i'm pretty sure i'm not the only one. but then i'm also sure that i'm only 26, not very old, you see, and so that's why it's alarming to have knees that creak upon standing up from squatting (why am i squatting? i don't know...it comes up more often than you'd think).

so i guess i'm wondering if there are any out there who have conquered the creaks and aches (my hips occasionally ache) and might give advice about stretching, vitamins, and the like, or if i'm just, you know, riding completely wrong.

stranger things have happened.

well, i'm 27 and my joints do some weird things. they snap, crackle, and pop for really no reason. when it's cold and wet outside, my knee and lower back tighten up. i started taking glucosimine, but it's been to soon to see if it really helps or not. it's supposed to be good for joints.

i've heard that as well, but wondered if anyone had tried it and what results they'd gotten... i just saw a vegetarian version at the co-op the other day. secretly i wish there was an excercise regimen i could follow instead, but i have a feeling it won't be that easy.

a'ight here we go again: knees hurt in front - raise your saddle,
knees hurt in back (rare) - lower your saddle,
knees hurt anyway - lower your gear
remember to stretch your legs after everyride.
nothing helps - go see a doctor.

well, that's the deal...they don't hurt, they're just, you know, a little noisy. can't i just throw on some chain lube and call it good? maybe rough 'em up with a wire brush? stupid knees.

has this started after or before you got fixed? If it started before disregard my previous post. Otherwise messing with your setup in terms of fit.

before.

as for the doctor, i opted for dental insurance over medical. it was a tough call, but i was spitting teeth. like that band. spitting teeth. anybody? nevermind.

that'd be great, wouldn't it? i curse these imperfect biological based body parts. :(

I tend to hurt when I'm not riding enough... don't commute for a day, my legs ache like crazy.

according to the spinal 'doctors', cracking joints are merely adjsuting themselves, like a goot set of brakepads. No harm, dont believe the wivestails about arthritus.

I tend to believe them since they could probably argue 'thats not good, you need a lifetime of spinal adjustments to correct that...'

As pointed out above glucosimine and condriten (sp?) may help maybe shark fin or coral calcium. At 61 I expect mine to creak a little.

stretch. strecth lots. go take a yoga class and learn the "sun salutation" - its a fluid a movements that stretches the whole body - esp legs - perfect morning stretch routine. or get one of those silly yoga tapes. When I am doing it regularly, my knees and back feel great. When I am not, I am achy and poppy.

Glucocmine is really only worthwhile for people who actually have some form of arthritis or tendanidis.
