BMX fixed gear help

This isn't for me, but my friend is looking for a bike to jump down stairs and all that crap on. I've recommended the Charge Scissor to him, but he doesn't want to spend a ton of money. Anyone have any recommendations for him? He wants to do grinds, jump down stairs, barspins and beat the crap out of it and he was looking at a Creeper, Lurker, and a PK Fixed, but I honestly have no idea when it comes to this style of fixed gear. Thanks everyone.

If thats what he wants to do, why fixed? Why not a BMX bike thats actually built for that?

PK Rippers are great bikes. I have a few friends that are into FGFS and they all have them.

Trust me, I've tried that route with him already.

Do the rims hold up when they bomb down stairs and stuff? I feel like a deep v with a rando on it just won't do the trick. All the dudes in the vids are rockin like 26" or 29" mtb tires on mtb rims fitted with a fixed hub from what they say in interviews and bike checks. I've seen a few with a deep v and a 700x32c mtb tire.

Rode a friends Origin 8 Brutus(which I don't think I've ever seen mentioned anywhere) and it purpose built to be a freestyle bike. Comes with pretty beefy tires and deep-v rims. Super beefy frame, really just felt like I was riding a big BMX bike.

Just tell him to buy a 26" BMX bike. Is there a specific reason he wants it to be fixed?

A BMX or BMX Cruiser would be much cheaper and much stronger, too.

...and easier to learn and land tricks with, which is why they evolved into their current state.

Because that's what all the "cool kids" are doing. He has it locked into his had that he needs one of these bikes to do tricks, even after I've showed him 26" BMX bikes like the We The People Avenger and other similar models. He continuously watches the Loose Nuts "Big Money Hustlaz" so if you have ever seen that then you'll understand why he "needs" one of these bikes.

Hell, just tell him you found a bike, and you're going to pick it up for him, get his money, and get him a BMX. He probably won't even know the difference. And all the 'cool kids' in the BMX scene rock 20's.

You might just have to get him some roller blades. At least you can get some real air on roller bladessssss.

You should stop being your friend's friend if he's that ignorant.

FixMe 10-14-11 10:37 AM

Thanks for the help everyone. I pretty much told him he's on his own because I'm sick and tired of his "snobbery" for lack of a better word. Everything you tell this kid that makes sense, he just retorts with some random ignorance and it's beyond annoying. I think I just might go with what Carleton said and get him some rollerblades, he already has a scooter.
