So for non-interesting and long story reasons, the nitto 50mm I have is now a little higher than I like with the new fork I just bought (post accident ). I can feel the 1 and a half cm or so that now sticks out because I can't get it deeper in the steerer. It irks me to no end.

Been all over ebay and the usual online bike spots but I may be missing something - where can I get a stem/quill, that's about 50-70mm in a relatively short length? (and not the Nitton Technomic - that has massive length). 1", threaded.

Or does anyone have one on hand they'd be willing to part with?

As a huge fan of ghetto-fabulous repair and problem-solving jobs, may I suggest (if [165] doesn't save the day) shortening the thing with a hacksaw? It would be hard to get the angle right, but if you succeeded you would feel really tough.

I think I have one....I'll check when I get home. If I do it is nothing special, prob an 80's SR stem.

I chopped down the quill of my Techtonic stem using a miter chop saw. Used a short stem bolt from another stem.

I too have this problem now after buying the straight blade fork from bike works!!! I tried like 5 stems at garage de velo and none of them worked. On top of that I ride a 110mm stem because of my ape arms! I could go shorter I suppose but I'd rather not and it's not like I need a long quill as I only weigh like 130lbs. I know i'm not as popular as abstnr arround here but if anyone could help it would be awesome!

oh yah sorry for stealing the thread.

I hacksaw'd mine. It's not a perfect angle match but is works pretty well. I think a stop by a machine shop with a chop saw could get you a nice clean cut for a couple of bucks.

Finding a shorter bolt would be the harder part. Mine just barely had the threading down far enough. Otherwise a die may be in order.

QBP has dimension stems as short as 60mm. but they're nasty welded aluminum. that said, i have two dimension stems and they work quite well for holding my handlebars in place. i also have a 50mm salsa stem witha 90 degree rise to it that i might be willing to part with...

Thanks for the help everyone - I'm going to see if the Miter Chop Saw might work, otherwise, Paraleisure, I may have to take you up on that - do you know how long those are?

Again, thanks for all the tips, suggestions and offers.

Also, WithNail, it's all good man, if there's anything here that helps you out or if you're interested in hitting up one of these offers, go for it.

I have no idea. I'll swing by with measuring tape at some point and check. I just remember some really short ones in there, but it's a box full of assorted bike junk so there's no way to know how long they are without checking.
