Replacement wheelset for Salsa Casseroll Single
 

Hubs are trashed on my 2009 Casseroll. I'm trying to find a $200-300 replacement wheelset with sealed hubs. The surly hubs on my current stock setup are not cutting it. I want to continue to run 35-37mm tires. This frame is listed as 130mm rear spacing. I could probably squeeze a 135mm wheel in the back, but I would rather not.

Any suggestions? Any Casseroll owners out there with similar hub woes/solitions/comments, etc.

I'm tempted to replace the bearings with phil wood, but is it worth it if the hubs are going to constantly come out of adjustment, and/or get trashed by the snow and rain?

My current Salsa delgado wheels have been fairly bombproof, with the exception of the surly hubs.

If you maintained the hubs I am really not sure why they would have failed I use shimano 105 highflange/333 and durace I repack them often because I love them My dura ace hubs are the oldest I bought them used in 1992 and have kept them clean and lubed twice a year they have about 6000 miles on them

Surly hubs do kind of suck. The whole concept of adjustable cartridge bearings was bad from the start.

you'll need to add 1 cm of spacers on the rear axle. Their website only lists the rim as being able to fit as wide as 35mm but if you look at mavic's site they approve up to 50mm

I have had them repacked once, and adjusted twice recently. This bike is about a year old. They were fine unti they got really wet. This particular hub has a reputation of problems. Some people seem to love them, some people to have repeated issues like me where their wheels wobble and the cones needed constant adjustment.

Formula hubs to any rim you want,I would go towards lighter rims,but thats just me.

..........and Surly hubs suck.
