SACRAMENTO: Bike Missing

I left my bike locked outside an apartment at 23rd and G Streets last night. It's now gone. Please keep an eye out for it.

It's a cheap $325 Pure Fix (I know...) but it's mine. mostly stock except for the Charge saddle and "some brand" pedals/clips/straps.
Thank you

Didn't you just pick this up? I'm sorry nonetheless, very uncool.

Jaytron 11-01-11 09:20 AM

Sorry to hear man, how did you have it locked up? What type of lock etc?

coma061 11-01-11 09:26 AM

Yeah, I've only had it for like a month or less. It was ghetto locked with a crappy cable while I ran inside for a while. Came back and it's gone.

Side note: I realize you may not mean it this way but I have to admit, I hate questions like this when someone gets their bike jacked. Even if you're not asking as an opportunity to chide the victim for using the wrong kind of lock or locking in the wrong place... I dunno. People on a bike forum likely already know how to lock a bike. And even if OP used a ****ty cable lock, it still sucks to get a bike stolen and it's still wrong that the thief stole it.

Kind of like when someone gets hit by a car and the 1st question is whether the cyclist was wearing a helmet.

Edited to add: See? OP already knows he didn't lock it well. Probably already feels pretty terrible about it. Don't see the point of those kind of questions. But maybe it's just me.

Thanks. That was my first thought as well. That being said, I know it should have been locked much better. I just didn't worry too much about it since this is a very quiet area and I wasn't going to leave it for long.

Street rider 11-01-11 09:51 AM

Thats pretty ****ty man. Just keep scanning craigslist for it. Do you have some friends in the area keeping an eye out for it too?

It's pretty much for my own reference really. I try to learn from other's mistakes rather than my own? Wasn't trying to be an ass. I did sympathize as well, so not much else I can do.

Probably a habit from the car forum days where you could have multiple different "theft deterrents"

Not sure if misskaz is mad, but I am! F-ing bummed at least. I have it posted on facebook. My own and also Tom from Pedal Hard.

yummygooey 11-01-11 10:10 AM

Everyone thinks their lock setups are fine until they get something jacked.

yummygooey 11-01-11 10:11 AM

But I hope you find your bike. Theft is a terrible, terrible thing.

coma061 11-01-11 10:17 AM

As I said, I know it was not a good lock job. I only left it for a couple hours, and in a "safe" neighborhood. I took a risk and paid for it. To make it worse, my bike is my main form of transportation. And it was just about brand new.
The wackness is overwhelming me right now.

You should put up a thread there too. Sucks man, but look at the brightside; you get to buy a new bike!

Sounds just like my GF's two week old Kilo (now replaced). It's a bummer for sure.

fastbartender 11-01-11 11:32 AM

That sucks man, I hope you find it. Scrod, that gif of Oprah galloping is awesome.

Cynikal 11-01-11 11:53 AM

That sucks, sorry. I'll keep an eye out around town.

EpicSchwinn 11-01-11 11:56 AM

I got a bike stolen last year and it definitely sucks :(. Also locked with a cable in a "safe" place. Make sure to report it to pawn shops and bikes shops and include the serial number if you have it. Also be sure to post a missing ad on craigslist. I didn't have my s/n but the police actually ended up catching a guy with my bike (a known bike thief), found my ad on craigslist and got the bike back to me. I know the chances are slim but keep your head up and be persistent. Lots of times if its an organized group they let the bikes "cool down" somewhere for upwards of 6 months or transport them out of state so be sure to check in the future and check other cities' craigslists.

P.S. I always get all warm and fuzzy feeling when people start calling me just "kaz" since that's how I'm known by just about everyone in real life.
