Pushing a sweet fixie to the coffeeshop looks so much cooler than just walking...or pushing a wal mart MTB.

I do both. Fixed is simply fun, no deeper reasoning then that.

I ride singlespeed because it's efficient. It's more efficient than a multi-gear bike, because my chain line is always straight and doesn't have to run through derailer pulleys (and my hub isn't filled with complex planetary gears). It's more efficient than a fixed gear bike because I don't have to expend extra energy fighting gravity while descending steep hills.

Actually, I ride a singlespeed because it was what I could afford when I wanted a new bike.

low maintenance and cool pointz, bro.

Because it was cheaper to convert my commuter than it was to fix the gears.

fixed is fun, but gets you very sweaty and all which is awkward when you're riding your bike to a girls house.
geared kinda takes the challenge out of riding because you'll always switch gears when climbing because you actually have gears which takes the challenge away

Yikes dude. You're 0 for 2 today.

What would be the point of multiple gears if you don't use them when encountering hilly terrain to reduce fatigue? Isn't that what they were made for? I was just stating my opinion that knowing I have additional gears will make me more willing to gear down to reduce fatigue.

I encountered fixed gear after returning to the US and before that all i did was downhill mountain biking and long tours and went fixed because i like the extra challenge and feeling of accomplishment on longer rides and big hills. and plus its tons more fun than riding geared bikes and its easier to get into it and riding even when not going on longer rides. and now i wanna do fixed downhill mountain biking with a 29er.
