Chainring Help Please

My origin 8 black/gold chainring just came in and the gold is the wrong color. I was thinking of using the other side as the side that will show on the outside. Does it matter which side you use on a chainring?

I don't think it would matter. Is there anything about the mounting area that looks like it'd matter?

Assuming your chainring is recessed to accommodate the chainring bolts, and if the bolts don't line up perfectly with the chainring bolt holes on both the crank spider and chainring, then you will probably mess up your chainring while you're riding.

Most chainrings are "reversible". You'll just need thin chainring bolt spacers to fill in the recessed areas and slightly longer bolts.

Or you can just return it in exchange for what you actually paid for.

^ i figured he meant the gold wasn't the shade he wanted to match the rest of his parts, not that he actually ordered another color

Yeah I hate how they have different shades of gold. Some parts have brass gold, others yellow gold. Annoying!
