Looks like they've come out with a new SS 29er option! The Soma Juice is now coming with sliding rear dropouts so it can easily be run as singlespeed.

Saw this today. New style Soma Rush in black with gold decals. I haven't seen this on Soma's site, store, or anywhere else. It is for sale on tokyofixedgear. It looks friggin sweet but I have no idea why the only place I've seen it is tokyo fixed. Anyone know more?

Merry Sales isn't showing them on their dealer site but they're a little slow to update things sometimes. Maybe Evan will pop in and shed some light on it.

That black and gold looks great!

OK my son has outgrown the fixie we built together (his grandmothers circa late 70's univega as a base so it does not have track geometry, but i was a fun build include full repaint with auto paint)

I would like opinions on a choice between a used Soma Rush frame set (with head set and cranks for what seens to be a good price...under 300) or a new Pake rum runner.

I don't think i can go wrong with either as a base.

The rush I can get and swap compenents and then let the kid pick a color and get it powder coated if he hates the white.

the rum runner is new....and the black/neon fade is pretty cool

thanks

The geometry on both bikes is nearly identical. The difference is the tubing used. Soma Rush uses heat treated double butted cro-mo (light and high quality). The Pake rum runner uses regular cro-mo steel. Regular cro-mo isn't bad, but the Rush would be quite a bit lighter.

As I understand, these were a limited production run. I still have a 57cm here in the basement of the shop

Can anyone tell me what type of headset is need for a Rush? The soma site doesn't want to go into frame details, i.e click on frame and that's it.

I know 1" threadless..... but JIS standard or "new european" standard?

thanks

Crandrew 11-19-12 11:23 AM

Well here is one option. http://store.somafab.com/ird1tethhe.html

EpicSchwinn 11-21-12 02:46 PM

Thought this was a pretty sweet track setup on a Rush. I guess the guy won state masters sprint on it this summer. I wish I could find some better pics of the bike.

BUT THEY ONLY HAVE ONE SIDED DROPOUT PLATES!!1!!

I think you should go for it (especially in matte black). The only argument people seem to ever have against them is that they don't have inside dropout protectors, but seriously when was the last time someone called the Cannondale track frame ****ty? That doesn't have dropout plates at all.

*yes I realize comparing a pake to a cannondale track is silly, but I'm just saying there have been good aluminum frames that are still good 10 years later that didn't have dropout protectors.

I was one of the individuals opposing the dropouts only being plated on one side. If the price is right for tomorrow I'll probably jump on one.

There's a blue French 75 for sale in my local classified's website/forum. It's been posted several times before with a starting price of $450, like new condition, and includes a CaneCreek Integrated headset, and a Salsa seat clamp. Half a year has passed and now the seller's asking price is $250. Really tempted to buy the thing and switch over parts from my Rush onto it. -__-

Muffin Man 12-07-12 09:11 AM

Wow.

unyenman 12-07-12 12:18 PM

Turned out that the guy recently sold it, without deleting or updating his ad. Oh well, lol.

Assuming you still have it somewhere, have you thought about salvaging the headbadge from your wrecked one? It can act as a good luck charm or memento of it. I believe you can just take dental floss and slide it under the badge to displace the adhesive.

Finally swapped over the headbadge. The logo on the headbadge and seat tube of old style rushes is not removable

That's unfortunate, Charlie. Still looks better with that new headbadge, though.
