Hmmm... Think I bought the Wrong Bars
Greetings all. I don't post here much bought I read often. Just want to thank all the smart and hilarious members that make this board educational and fun. LOTS of knowledge (and shananigens) here. Good stuff. And now to business.
I bought Easton's EA70 road drops online and I'm a little embarassed that I had not considered them having cable recesses on the front and rear. Obviously I wont be running shift cables but i am installing levers/hoods and housing for both front and rear brakes. I'm wondering if I could get away with taping some leftover housing into the rear recesses and wrapping the bars. I've only ever had flat bar brake levers so I am scratching my head a little here. Maybe I bought the wrong style for SS use? Are there SS specific road bars I should look at? |
You should be able to wrap it without the housing? Just cause there is a indent doesn't mean it must be used...you could tape some housing in there if it really bugs you I guess just if you do make sure its secure.

ive used leftover cable and it works fine. depending on the depth of the groove it you will see/feel the dummy cable. ive also used a short section of small round rope. this filled the groove perfectly. secure either with quality electrical tape.
like stated above you can wrap it as is but in my case filling the grove made the bars more comfortable. |
I have EA 50's and have never noticed the empty groove in the back (I run them on a bike with gears/brakes). But then I use thick cinelli cork to wrap and that might be the difference over a thinner tape.

I just taped over them. I don't notice and when I do it's an extra place to place my fingers.
|
I just got two of those bars. I'm half tempted to bondo the back groove on one of them.

Tape them up, you won't even notice the groove is even there.

Or you will and maybe you'll find it to be ergonomic on your fingers. It's not a big deal :)
