Its an '81 Fuji Royal. Your thoughts?

Unless it's too expensive, I don't see why there would be a problem.

cruiserhead 12-04-11 12:34 AM

looks so pretty as is. It would be a shame to strip it down.

Its funny you say that cause it really is a beautiful old bike. I just want a single speed, striped down bike with bullhorns or straight bars and nothing else. And maybe a double cog on the rear so I can swap it around and learn to ride fixed gear.

striknein 12-04-11 01:01 AM

Too clean to convert.

Jaytron 12-04-11 01:25 AM

No. Leave it as is.

LesterOfPuppets 12-04-11 01:29 AM

I probably wouldn't touch it. If you find another one with a wasted rear wheel, or missing rear derailer or something, then yeah.

calv 12-04-11 01:34 AM

You seem to know what you want to do, so the only thing left to do is just do it.

oneeyedhobbit 12-04-11 02:14 AM

Don't do it. Just buy an off the rack or find a retro frame if you're hell bent on building one up. That bike looks beautiful, and the "weight savings" touted by conversion are negligible.

byrnemm 12-04-11 03:36 AM

you shouldn't have posted such a pretty picture :)

jimmytango 12-04-11 03:50 AM

Either way, I say lose the blue. Especially that tire *shudder*

wearyourtruth 12-04-11 06:42 AM

1) sell bike on CL to someone who would love a geared steel bike

2) buy kilo tt (or similar)

Drummerboy1975 12-04-11 08:15 AM

Very well. I'll it as is and search for another to build.

Thanks for your in put!

Nuggetross 12-04-11 10:25 PM

why do people like to ruin their bikes on this site?

pintobean 12-08-11 06:28 PM

I think it would look great.

motobeCarnage 12-08-11 06:36 PM

Why? What is the point of turning that into a single speed?

RaleighSport 12-08-11 06:47 PM

ehh it's your bike so what you will, but if you insist on it please don't chop anything off so you can reverse it.

PlattsVegas 12-08-11 06:51 PM

just leave it in the same gear all the time. problem solved.

nuhtowel 12-08-11 06:51 PM

I would ride that as is, that bike is really nice.

Holy hell people, learn to read!

Drummerboy1975 12-08-11 08:11 PM

Yes its staying as is.

But just to keep things Festivus for the Restofus, i stuck a red stripe tire on the rear.

You made the right decision. Get some gumwalls, leather/cork tape, and a brooks for maximum awesome.

hairnet 12-08-11 08:25 PM

That bike needs Paselas

would definitely be one classy bike..

Why are people so dead set against converting an entry level 80's Japanese road bike? It's not rare, it's not special, it has no soul.

LesterOfPuppets 12-09-11 01:39 AM

I think it's got plenty of soul. I think it's full CrMo so a decent frame. That thing is beautiful.

Especially when compared to this:

I'm not exactly dead set against it. I just wouldn't do it unless the rear derailer or rear wheel got damaged, something like that to encourage SS as an easy fix to keep her on the road.

Thank's guys for the compliments on my bike. I'm real proud of her. She's a good ol' girl.

And yes, it has a bit of a Harlequin look, what with the different colored wheels and bar tape. I would love to have a Brooks saddle with leather/cork bar tape and gumwalls. Tell y'all what, if the guy right before me in line for the Box of Crap want's to throw all of that in the box, consider it done!

Is this yours? What year is it?

Thats exactly what I've been thinking about doing to my bars, making a set of bullhorns but leaving mine OG and just stashing them, incase I want to go back to drops.
