Thinking about turning this into a single speed
Unless it's too expensive, I don't see why there would be a problem.
looks so pretty as is. It would be a shame to strip it down.

Too clean to convert.
No. Leave it as is.
I probably wouldn't touch it. If you find another one with a wasted rear wheel, or missing rear derailer or something, then yeah.
You seem to know what you want to do, so the only thing left to do is just do it.
Don't do it. Just buy an off the rack or find a retro frame if you're hell bent on building one up. That bike looks beautiful, and the "weight savings" touted by conversion are negligible.
you shouldn't have posted such a pretty picture :)
Either way, I say lose the blue. Especially that tire *shudder*
1) sell bike on CL to someone who would love a geared steel bike
2) buy kilo tt (or similar) |
Very well. I'll it as is and search for another to build.
Thanks for your in put! |
why do people like to ruin their bikes on this site?
I think it would look great.
Why? What is the point of turning that into a single speed?
ehh it's your bike so what you will, but if you insist on it please don't chop anything off so you can reverse it.
just leave it in the same gear all the time. problem solved.
I would ride that as is, that bike is really nice.

Yes its staying as is.
But just to keep things Festivus for the Restofus, i stuck a red stripe tire on the rear. http://i1217.photobucket.com/albums/...7_160301-2.jpg |
You made the right decision. Get some gumwalls, leather/cork tape, and a brooks for maximum awesome.
That bike needs Paselas

Why are people so dead set against converting an entry level 80's Japanese road bike? It's not rare, it's not special, it has no soul.
I think it's got plenty of soul. I think it's full CrMo so a decent frame. That thing is beautiful.
Especially when compared to this: http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q...i_royale_1.jpg I'm not exactly dead set against it. I just wouldn't do it unless the rear derailer or rear wheel got damaged, something like that to encourage SS as an easy fix to keep her on the road. |

And yes, it has a bit of a Harlequin look, what with the different colored wheels and bar tape. I would love to have a Brooks saddle with leather/cork bar tape and gumwalls. Tell y'all what, if the guy right before me in line for the Box of Crap want's to throw all of that in the box, consider it done! |

Thats exactly what I've been thinking about doing to my bars, making a set of bullhorns but leaving mine OG and just stashing them, incase I want to go back to drops. |
