Sustained climbing on fixed- what gradient is doable?

I got a Kona Paddy Wagon a few weeks ago with 42/16. My first fixed gear. I am still getting the hang of it, but want to try and do some longer climbs on it.
I have made some short pitches of about 10%-12% with some grunting efforts.

What gradients should I expect to be able to do for distance?

(I know there are tons of variables, but just throwing it out there)

HTFU and any gradient is possible.

If you have decent momentum to start the climb, maintaining isn't too hard. I climb about 1/6-1/4 mile of 10%-12% everyday with no problems. Coming down is usually harder/scarier.

And I'm riding at 81" :P

Tejano, Jay, thank you.

It really depends on how fit you are, and how steep the gradient is and of course the fit of the bike.

Honestly speaking, you need to test out what works for you, if you can push a 42/16 on a 7% avg. with some 8-10% ramps, then you are definitely fit enough to ride then there you go.

All you need is thighs like this and you can take on any gradient.
