Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? Personally, I think the Phil cranks are ugly, and wouldn't buy them even if they cost half as much.

$750 is just an absurd amount regardless.

I heard when you buy those cranks you sell your soul to phil wood.

Nonethless if given the option I would accept 850 mcchickens instead.

I wondered about that, too. I think the claim is legit. According to The Hour Record, the bike used by Merckx to set the hour record was 5750g, or 12.7lbs.

What really gets me about that is the wheels don't appaer to be low spoke count or extraordinary in any way.

Low spoke count wasnt much of a thing in the 70s. It would be cool if the spokes were tied and soldered.
