Red Rock Canyon - Nevada
One of the most beautiful places I've ever ride...

Ride started in the valley. Really nice roads and scenery. Beautiful weather...
https://www.dropbox.com/s/t8z4jem45f...02.sm.jpg?dl=1 Wild Muskadine grapes. https://www.dropbox.com/s/npqm9eiait...01.sm.jpg?dl=1 GPS wasn't much help here and I was pretty much lost after this point... https://www.dropbox.com/s/gragbl408x...03.sm.jpg?dl=1 Conditions deteriorating - climbed out of the valley into the clouds, temperature dropping, fog, then rain, then the tires packed with mud and sustained 12% climbing. Winding Stair Gap Rd is aptly named... https://www.dropbox.com/s/fhv1nu9dxh...07.sm.jpg?dl=1 https://www.dropbox.com/s/eg2zorscjd...05.sm.jpg?dl=1 Decided to abort. Rode back to the valley and it was beautiful weather. 18 miles, 2600 ft climbing, 7.4 MPH average :o https://www.dropbox.com/s/9ct5kajxsn...06.sm.jpg?dl=1 -Tim- |
Thank you for this photo.
I've stood right at this spot. The place looks exactly like the photo. Stunning. Temperature was nine billion degrees the day I was there. |

30 mile solo ride today. Great average on the way out, and then the battle with the headwind for the ride back. Loving the Mavic Ksyrium wheels I picked up on Craigslist a few months ago. Have done several rides over less than ideal roads and they are still straight as an arrow. Pardon the non matching seatpost - it's an OEM carbon post from another Felt road bike replacing a setback that came on the bike. Will probably just wrap it in carbon or matte black vinyl.

Cool bike. Fun fact, I thought those Mavic wheels were called "Krysium" until about a month ago. Just a liiiittle bit of dyslexia.

Hated the bike when I first got it. Taken me over a year of trial and error to get the fit just right. Seatpost, saddle, stem and bars along with the tape have all been swapped out. I know that most people do that, but for me, it just took a long time. Fully dialed in now, and over the winter there may be some upgrades. It will take Di2 and I am considering it heavily.

Yeah, it always takes me a lot of trial and error to get those things where I like them too. Di2 seems like it'd be a really nice way to ride, but I still like the (relative) simplicity of mechanical. A lot of new bike tech just seems to make the bikes more annoying to work on (internal cable routing UUUGGGHHH).

Mine are circa 2006, in a box in my closet and might go back on my bike. Dura Ace C24 wheels are nice, light, but I really miss how the Mavics roll and believe the C24's are slower. Just something about the Ksyriums and both were completely rebuilt just before putting the C24's on. FYI, if you can find them then buy a few spare spokes just in case. Spokes for many Mavic wheels are very rare now.-Tim- |

47 miles. 5200+ ft climbing.
Breakneck descents through falling leaves, a six mile climb along a river with waterfalls, food/hydration/clothing/weather just right, legs felt great... This was one of those rides we wish would never end and this is my new favorite route. https://www.dropbox.com/s/g5qjsnm9sq...01.sm.jpg?dl=1 https://www.dropbox.com/s/tx1gddd0t8...03.sm.jpg?dl=1 https://www.dropbox.com/s/umaifmxhbl...08.sm.jpg?dl=1 https://www.dropbox.com/s/c7lgnwt241...10.sm.jpg?dl=1 https://www.dropbox.com/s/7o7ux2a4w3...13.sm.jpg?dl=1 https://www.dropbox.com/s/40wp8mvpp7...18.sm.jpg?dl=1 |
