Force is leaps and bounds above 105 in terms of lightness and performance.

105 is Shimano's workhorse grouppo. It's on par with SRAM Apex/Rival. It's heavier, but bulletproof. If you are deciding between Force and 105 (both of which are within your budget) do not hesitate: go Force.

Source: I have owned and ridden on pretty much every grouppo offered by Shimano and SRAM (never Campy though... go figure).

^ Living in FL, this makes me really jealous! I miss real dirt, any fire roads here are just too sandy

Well, at least you don't have to worry about your stem slipping.

1" steerer with a 1 1/8" stem with a shim. It works

should have known there'd be more than 1 thunderbird motel down here...i thought that was the one on collins ave in sunny isles, on the north end of miami beach. used to stay there on family vacations when i was a kid.

Merry Christmas from St. Louis. My first ride with bibs and jersey. For anything longer than 4 miles, there's no going back (white jersey w/ black stripe).

It's hard to believe, but that area(Cave Creek/Carefree AZ) is 45 minutes from the center of the 5th largest city in the US(Phoenix).
