Should I worry about this?

So I just got my first fixed gear yesterday, and after I finish putting most of it together, I notice a dent. And when I bought the bike off BikeIsland, they said it only had scuffed fork drop outs... Should I take the time and spend the money to send it back and get a refund, or should I keep it? And if I keep it, should I worry about this?

Personally, I'd worry about it enough to take it to a reputable shop and see if they thought I should worry about it.

a rather severe dent on the tube that supports the majority of your weight? i personally would get a refund.

Geraldjna 12-31-11 09:06 PM

Alright, i'll just return it. Thanks guys.

That looks like a new bike to me. If that's the case, a dent that size can't be justified.

If it was a bargain project frame I wouldn't worry about riding it but it would affect how much money I was willing to put into it. I'd be aiming for a zero out of pocket build.

PlattsVegas 01-01-12 10:05 AM

Im sure that dent makes no noticeable structural difference. If you had gotten that frame for free, i would not worry about it. But since you paid for it, you should probably send it back and get a refund or a non-dented frame.

yummygooey 01-01-12 01:38 PM

You should send it back. If a dent that size wasn't in the product description then they should cover shipping too.

Philasteve 01-01-12 01:48 PM

Damn dude, personally if I spent my money on that, I'd send it back I know it sucks because you just wanna ride but I wouldn't pay my hard earned money for a frame with a huge dent on it.

That thing is not a 'dent' its a friggin smash. Return it and get something else. Maybe even pony up for full price undamaged frame i you were trying to get some sort of deal

Geraldjna 01-01-12 10:48 PM

Do you think they'll still accept it even though I removed the rear brake that came already assembled?
EDIT: I'm waiting for a reply from them to see if they'll exchange it.

that's an interesting location for a dent of that size.
maybe the box was dropped and the front wheel's axle smashed into it?

was it delivered by fedex? :p

Geraldjna 01-01-12 11:09 PM

UPS. The front wheel's axle is in perfect condition. I'm starting to think that they sent it to me in that condition and thought I wouldn't notice it...

As much as people like to crap on UPS, I've never received a damaged parcel from them, including numerous complete bicycles and frames. Most damage is the result of improper / inadequate packaging. Both my bd bikes had scratches due to parts rubbing and minimal padding in a small box, but my Salsa Casserol that was packaged by Universal Cycles in an oversized box with tons of packaging material was immaculate.

Geraldjna 01-02-12 04:48 PM

Ok, so Jeff from BikeIsland said he can only give me a refund for it... Can you guys give me links for complete fixed gears for $250 max? Make sure they are decent quality too. Thanks.
EDIT: No BikeIsland.

TejanoTrackie 01-02-12 05:09 PM

That bike normally sells for $300 with free shipping from Bikesdirect. You got it heavily discounted, because it was damaged, as are most of the Bikeisland bikes. You get what you pay for and there's no free lunch. Just pony up the $300 clams and get it new and in good conditiion from bd. Also, you have other choices, such as the Windsor Clockwork for the same price if you buy from them. It's pretty hard to find anything decent new for under $250.
