Reverse Brake Levers for Origin8 Bullhorns
Hi all,
I am in the process of upgrading my Gravity Swift2 from BD. My Origin8 bullhorn bar and Nashbar TT/reverse brake levers came last night, but they aren't compatible with each other because the ID of the bullhorn seems just slightly less than 19mm. It looks like all of the reverse brake levers on interweb are for bars with ID of 19mm-21mm. Does anyone know if there are reverse brake levers that would fit a bar with less than 19mm ID? If your bike has an Origin8 bullhorn and brake levers, what levers do you use? TIA. |
im soon to discover this problem myself i fear......
nothing a machine shop cant solve... |
Reverse brake levers, as in you pull them to release the brakes? Sounds dangerous, especially on a fyxee!
I keed |
Not sure if this is what you're talking about, but: when I switched from a flat bar to bullhorns I had a brake compatibility issue. The old handlebars were 31.8 and the new ones 26.0, so the brakes (cross style levers) wouldn't clamp tight enough. The shop had some shims that solved the problem.

Gotcha. Good to know.

Went to the LBS and the guy who helped me said to grind down the levers' wedges--but I don't think I could do it without ruining everything.
I guess I will keep the Nashbar levers as they are and order a 38cm Nashbar bullhorn when it is not on back order. The Origin8 bullhorn can go on another bike, and I will put on a set of cross levers near the bar ends instead. That's the plan for now. |
I just went and measured a set of DiaComp reverse levers that I have in my future use box. 17.7mm
I bought these from Velo Orange, and my set has that vintage bike brown color on the fixed part. I would bet that DiaComp also makes the housing in black also. |

Velo Orange was out of the small DiaComp reverse levers, so I ended up putting a pair of 24mm Soma crosstop levers on the Origin8 bullhorn. Used mountain bike brake cables for the crosstop levers.
Instead of putting the bar on my fixed gear Gravity Swift2, I put it on my Mercier Mini Velo. Please excuse the extra-ugly tape work. :o http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7018/6...a42b1ec4_z.jpg |
