does anyone know if you can peel those decals off? I don't mind that color combo (orlando magic fan)

Nagrom_ 01-29-12 01:34 AM

I think they're under a clear coat.

havagr8da 02-02-12 09:17 PM

I will not cave in to peer pressure. Getting one anyway. Love that frame.

illdthedj 02-03-12 11:22 AM

i would take the premium brew over the kilo tt....then take some aircraft stripper to the frame and make it naked steel.

it looks like the frame is better than the kilo tt, better dropouts, better seatpost binder....
nicer cranks/chainring...i dunno. it seems the kilo has a mix of ****ty and nice components, same with the brew...just different choices where the quality components went.

true those graphics on the brew are a little "xtreme to the max bro", but it would be fun to have a raw steel frame. it would be a weekend project. polish up the frame. some upkeep of polishing every once in a while to keep it shiny and rust free but meh whatevs

Strip, then clear?

illdthedj 02-03-12 12:05 PM

yah i think you could just strip then clearcoat it. wouldn't be all shiny polishey, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing.

i do know you CANT clearcoat a POLISHED frame...at least thats what ive read a number of places. most polish like simichrome (what i have....works excellently by the way) i guess are basically micro grit in a wax base (correct me if im wrong, definitely not an expert) so when you rub the polish in, the micro grit is basically your final super fine grit sandpaper, then when you wipe off you wipe off the grit but leave some of the wax which acts like a protectant...

BUT since its covered in that wax clear coat wont adhere to the frame as well and will probably flake off after a while.

maybe you could polish, then de-wax/grease the whole frame or whatever then clearcoat.

or just strip and clearcoat.
lol anywho...

havagr8da 02-03-12 01:15 PM

Frame fork about 200 bucks + sandblast and powder coat 125 = 325 for really nice frame. The guy I talked to said he would do 3 for 100 a piece. 900 for 3 sweet little frames is not bad.

Scrodzilla 02-03-12 01:30 PM

Or you could just skip all the bull**** and buy this to begin with, which is the same exact frameset nickel plated.

Nuggetross 02-03-12 01:45 PM

when are you guys going to get over bikesdirect bikes? support your damn lbs, use craigslist, or support your damn bike collective if you're too damn cheap. these bikes suck.

jet sanchEz 02-03-12 01:50 PM

I'd buy it and sell the wheels. Ride the hell out of it and paint it red.

BD bikes are great for the money, that's a pretty well known fact. I think you're bitter and angry over your other thread.

I'm starting to think that Nuggetross is really the reincarnation of this guy:

If I liked the nickle plated I would but obviously I don't.

unfortunately, that is not quite the ideal solution it would seem to be.
first off, they only have 1 size left in it.
next, as i mentioned earlier in this thread, that frame is exactly what i ride now in place of my dear, departed pb.
but speaking from experience...anyone as foolish as me to love the lugged maxway enough to buy bikeisland's nickle-plate version should be aware up front that they are in rough shape. they must have been sitting a long time in bd's warehouse unprotected because mine came full of interior corrosion & even a few bad spots on the outside of the bb shell too. i had to spend several days working on the damn thing with naval jelly & used close to a can of frame saver on it before i could build it. then to add insult to injury, the included headset was worthless & could not be used.

but i am very happy now with how my bike turned out, so it must have been worth the hassle...

What size (25.4 or 26.0) handlebar does this SE Premium Brew have? The only info I can find on it is that it is a "Pazzaz Alloy Double Butted Track Bar, 420mm wide. I ordered one of these bikes as my first road/track/fixed, and I was thinking of putting bullhorn bars or a straight bar on it. I'd like to order the handlebar now, so when the bike arrives, I have it in hand. Thanks.

NateRod 04-24-12 10:30 PM

Been said before but...

Would be into it, if not for the fuggo dragon tattoo paint job.

If they removed the white part completely, and just gave the entire frame that dark teal-ish color, I'd be even more into it.

This.

Well, they may be decent bikes for the money, but nothing beats having a good lbs standing behind your purchase with service and assistance with warranty claims. Helping out the local economy is just a bonus.

I get a year of free service with any new bike from my lbs. Well worth the couple of bucks I may have saved If I purchased online.

Ultra, I feel like you're often a contrarian on purpose.
