De Bernardi

I love the de bernardi thron track frame

but i cant decide if it is worth the 200 bucks over iro, surly, or soma

what do people who have it think of it in comaparison to these bikes?

is it heavy? is it durable?....durable enough for city bashing or would i want to keep it safe inside for the track and special rides?

i know the paint is supposed to be junk...im not to worried about that...

answers asap would be awesome...ive got my eye on that one on ebay

I dig my as it feel quick and light, "skippy" if you will. This is after riding about 3 years on my Surly Steamroller. I think it is well worth the money and I have enjoyed every moment on mine. get it

I agree with [165]. The De Bernardi is a good stuff. It is not heavy, handles well, and mine is happy on the street. I don't regret the money I put down for it one bit.

I recently had the chance to take both an IRO and a Circle A custom track bike for a spin around the block, and it very quickly gave me a sense of what $1500 buys you. The IRO felt a lot like my old fixed road bike--no great shakes. The Circle A was nimble, so responsive, and it wanted to go. If I were to put those at two ends of a continuum, my De Bernardi has noticeably more "track" handling than the IRO, but could never compete with a custom bike. But then which would you feel comfortable locking to a no parking sign in front of a bar? As a sub-$500 mass-produced frame, the De Bernardi is pretty damn good.

Where are you getting your pricing? I seem to remember that the DeBer was only $50-75 more than a Steamroller at most places, and about the same as the Soma Rush.

I love my De Bernardi to bits! Best bike I've ever owned. At the time I was looking it was either this or a Soma Rush. The Soma was alright but it just didn't speak to me the way the De Bernardi did. I also had an interest in IRO's MarkV frame but they didn't have a size that fit me right.

I'd rather have 2 De Bernardis than 1 custom bicycle. One brakeless and geared to haul ass, and one with two brakes and geared for centuries/recovery days.
