So does this mean that....?
....my frame was built in '84? I read somewhere that the first two digits on a SN often are the year the frame was made. This is a Serotta frame and the bb shell has a Cinelli stamp on it. I've seen very few other Serotta frames on the internet, if anyone knows anything about Serotta history I'd be very greatful to know as well.... I've actually only ever seen two other Serotta frames, one with 'bikini' style dropouts that was said to have been built around '79. My frame has solid drop outs(no window in them). Also the seat stay bridge was just flat and aero.. Mine is flat on top and points down in the center on the bottom.. Maybe some of you have seen it I recently posted in in the "show your bike" thread.

bizarre ... serrota has made a lot of bikes in many configurations. I've seen a huffy branded track frame from the olympics that serrota made can't recall year 80's I think. Never heard of cinelli building for serotta. Stranger things could happen. I would tend to look towards the relationship between the tubing Columbus & Cinelli have been somewhat synonymous at points I think. Perhaps the lugset was sourced from columbus and that BB lug happened to stamped cinelli for some reason??? who knows for sure.

Just a heads up, if you don't get any luck you should definitely ask Classic and Vintage.

I also find it slightly odd that there are NO decals, guy I bought it from said it is original paint too.. Head tube has no decal, love the fork clearance though :)
http://i39.tinypic.com/331lwea.jpg Fork crown has no branding as well as no decals on fork or tubing material decal. I previously was riding a Makino keirin frame that had a Cloumbus tubing decal on the fork... http://i42.tinypic.com/xd9fa1.jpg Seat tube has no decal or tubing sticker either.. only a "made in usa" sticker that i was told just is from the person who originally built it.. http://i39.tinypic.com/2apwqp.jpg http://i41.tinypic.com/2v3q0zq.jpg dropouts.. not much to say about 'em.. http://i39.tinypic.com/27x42dl.jpg Seatstays/bridge(only decal/branding other than bbshell), Seat tube collar/clamp, tt/st lugwork... http://i44.tinypic.com/2qsme1f.jpg http://i44.tinypic.com/o6fio1.jpg http://i43.tinypic.com/fyik4j.jpg http://i43.tinypic.com/66xld4.jpg |
Bent fork?
|
OP, post your bike in the Classic and Vintage forum and they'll tell you what day of the week it was built.
Or you can try the Serotta forums: http://forums.serotta.com/index.php? serial numbers decoded: http://forums.serotta.com/showthread.php?t=99078 |

That frameset has been beaten up man. I mean, it's still pretty rad, but it has been beat!
|
you guys are ***n CRAZY. The fork is absolutely not bent, and the frame requires a 27.2 seatpost which is precisely what I have. After reading the Serrota decoded thing it seems like it's most likely an '84. Guess it doesn't truly matter though because it's a great fit for me and rides smoother than your bike so yeeeeeah.

Looks like it. Actually, look at the fork crown race and bottom headset cup. They should be more flush with each other. Maybe the steerer tube is bent at the base. Also, looks like the seatpost was too small and the binder got mashed together. Poor frame. :(
|
Okay bro, you're right. We're all fools.
|
Did scrodzilla have a grumpy sandwich for breakfast? It's not that beaten up just some paint chips, looks pretty clean in person considering that it could be that old and original. Would look brand new repainted it has not one single dent.
|
Dude, you can clearly see the fork is not parallel with the head tube and is angled back, typical of a fork bent where the steerer meets the crown. Also very clearly visible is the mashed seatpost binder, as TT pointed out.

Ryrog, sick vinyl collection, bro. And sick fixie, bro. If that seatpost height is correct for you, the frame it probably too small. That combined with short stem, riser bars, and steep track geometry, it looks like you'd be all sorts of cramped up over top of the bars. But it's not my fit. Have fun with the sw8 fixay Teddy Bro-sevelt. |
Yeah bro I have been putting a lot of thought into bending my fork to make my bike ride smoother.
|
Doesn't look bent in these:
http://i39.tinypic.com/2hgtuna.jpg Closeup on the race: http://i42.tinypic.com/256bdz7.jpg seems fine in these pics... have you crashed it since these we're taken? |

Anyways, here's a brochure from 1983: http://www.flickr.com/photos/oroboyz...0738/lightbox/ Serotta Nova track bike. Columbus SP tubing. I don't think that is the original paint job, Serotta decals were underneath the clearcoat. Post your bike on the Serotta forums. You may get a response from the person that built your frame. |

Sweet bike. I think you have a 27.0 post in a 27.2 seat tube, you shouldn't have a hard time fixing that, just get a 27.2 seatpost.
|
I'm suddenly remembering why I stopped posting here several years ago... Seat post is 27.2, says it right on the side. I wouldn't pick out a seat post with a blindfold on. Goodnight sleep tight brozies
