i'm almost done planning out my fixie. i still need to pick out a crankset, and i'm not looking forward to spending lots of money on it.
does anyone have cheap-ass cranks? i mean, could i get by with a cheaper crankset? are there any cheap and/or good combinations of crank/chainring that aren't track cranks and track chainrings?
or i guess someone could just convince me that i should in fact spend lots of money on some..

There's probably a shop around you that has a used parts selection. Go there and see what you can find in old road doubles or triples. Otherwise the Bulletproof cranks can be had all over. They're cheap, you should be able to meet the Harris Cyclery price and save on shipping. Plus your LBS will love you for shopping with them.
