10 speed chain?

I picked up a Sram pc1090r 10 speed chain at the Seattle swap meet yesterday. It was in an 8 speed box and I didn't check, $5 can't go wrong, right? I don't have any 10 speed rides so it's either toss it in the parts bin or cut it short and put it on the FG. Is it going to be too weak to use? It's light and shiny and would look good with it's hollow pins/plates and all but...

It's not weak at all. It's the wrong size. It's like asking if you can use your 20inch BMX tires on your 700c road bike.

Ain't gonna work.

as long as you have a 3/32 drivetrain it'll work just fine.

Thanks, I gues I'll see how long it lasts. Now I've got to take those bmx tires off though :notamused:

Why?

I agree if the FG/SS in question has 3/32 chainwheel and cog/FW it may be a matter of the chain being just slightly narrow for a fat chainwheel or cog

If the FG/SS has a 1/8 pitch chainwheel and cog/FW then it is the wrong size.

Not a question of if it'll fit. I've got a 3/32" ring and cog, it will fit. I'm just asking about durability. Answer: maybe, we'll see. Carry on...

It's going to be strong enough, 10 speed chains have to deal with a lot more bull**** than singles.

ride it 'til it breaks. then I hope you have brakes.

it's going to be fine. it won't break unless you never lube it.

bike and car forums really are way too tempting for my feeble mind
