Need some help deciding between two bikes...

So recently I've been looking into grabbing a fixed gear and making it single speed.
I've been contemplating between two that are within my price range, the Windsor The Hour and a Juliet all black on purefixcycles.
The former I would have to build, and if I wanted to add the tweaks that I wanted, would total around $600.
The Juliet is only around $400, and has everything I'm looking for. (Deep rims, flip flop hub, bullhorns, all black, rear brake, etc.)

Does anyone have any experience with Purefixcycles.com and their bikes?
Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks!

Edit: Here are some more specs on the Juliet.
I would mainly be using this bike to ride to and from my campus, so I don't need anything over the top.

aren't pure fix hi ten steel?

i thought that was a no no

The frame is the heart of any bike, and the one component you won't change. The Windsor Hour frame is better. Buy the Windsor Hour and modify it as you want.

Yes, they are. Polishing a turd.

What's this talk of high tensile steel?
And saving $200 is pretty damn alluring.

nothing wrong with hiten steel. It is cheap and strong. Downside is weight.
But for $400 for everything you want, pretty good deal.

The thing is, if you look around, there are some really nice bikes on sale in the $400-$600 that are utter bargains.
You can even get a nice, butted cromo frame with nice parts spec in that range.

Really I'd be using it to get too and from campus, nothing too strenuous. It looks clean however, and that's exactly what I'm looking for.
Where are these bikes?

cruiserhead 02-17-12 02:25 PM

for example,

Great frameset, parts for the money.

But there's a lot to be said for getting what you want and not what someone else thinks is a good deal.

This is a better bike for $50 less that seems to fit your needs >>> http://store.citygrounds.com/store/p...te-Bike-Black/

If you just want aesthetics and don't care about weight, I don't see why you should get the windsor over the juliet. You could always get the glorified Kilo TT, but I don't think you'd like how it looks.

Philasteve 02-17-12 02:34 PM

The windsor hour or Kilo TT get my vote.If you were going to buy the pure for $400 i'd put up a little more money and get the kilo tt pro. It has better wheels and cranks I believe.

I really like my The Hour, but if you need to change that much on it, it might make sense to go with the Juliet. I'd first find out how those wheels on the Juliet stack up to what you were planning on putting on The Hour.

I was thinking of putting on some Julian V2's. Would cost me around $160.

My size isn't available =( and I'm really looking for an all black bike, thank you though!

$200? http://www.nashbar.com/bikes/Product...0_10000_202614

Can pick up a set of bullhorns there for less <20

Philasteve 02-17-12 03:37 PM

Don't get any frame that's hi-ten steel. No point in getting a turd frame then putting decent wheels/parts on it.

highonpez 02-17-12 03:40 PM

Ugh, it's another one of those sites with one bike design that comes in different color combos and those are the Models. Get The Hour. It would end up being a much better bike in the long run. Totally does come with brakes too, if you were under the impression it didn't.

edit: Do you ride a 54? And are okay with scratches? It's where I got mine.

Stezzy 02-17-12 04:01 PM

i ride a windsor the hour and it hasnt done me wrong. works great
