With the amount of time/effort the OP has spent arguing in this thread... he could have gotten a part time job and made enough money to buy a nice new bike in his size.

Classic use of "don't you have anything better to do than argue on intenet" argument in internet discussion :D

Club soda and Grenadine it is.

Check out the fixed gear conversions thread. There's lots of interesting non-cookie-cutter bikes that look like they're really used. The last one was posted by some guy in California who said he got his frame for free.

That guy got lucky.

Some people rely on luck. Other people make their luck.

OP was polite in his initial posts, and he explicitly said that he is interested in the actual process of a conversion. He wants to wrench on a bike. It's fun for him. Sure, maybe if his primary motivation is cost, then he should look into buying a complete bike, but if the conversion process is notable part of the appeal, it shouldn't just be ignored. At least that's what I gathered from his posts.

OP, I hope you have fun making your conversion.

Thanks.

And just a quick question anyone know what the spoke length would be for origin8 hubs. I found Weinmann DP18 rims for 23$ nonmachined, and I figure I'll go with them. Yes I've heard that they are heavy, and may split at the seam, many have chimed in, at least from what I've read, that they are okay. I'm only 130lbs so I don't think it should be that big of a deal. Alas I'm stuck on finding out what spoke length to buy because A) I don't have the hubs in front of me to measure, and B) I also don't have the rims. If someone knows the measurements that'd be dope.
Edit: The hubs are 36 hole. I couldn't find matching front and rear black ones. I only found 32 hole silver origin hubs. :/

Lol, and I never would have thought spokes would be more expensive than rims and hubs (not together of course). Or maybe someone has a good site to buy spokes. From what I read DB, and wheelsmith are good.

That's going to make it hard to figure out spoke lengths.

I think I may have written that pretty poorly. I meant to say that both hubs are 36holes. When I was doing the searching I only found 32 hole front hubs to go with 36 hole rear hubs. But in the end I decided to just match the color and go with 36 on both hubs. I'm sure that makes it way easier.

Yup. There's a good chance you will be able to find those hubs and rims in spokecalc.

It's looking to me like you may be the only unlucky one. I want that hat.

The rims aren't in there. Damn. And I just looked for the hubs and I don't see origin, but I do see formula though not sure which it is, and I see the Harris cyclery track hubs of which the front is one of the ones I'm using.

tombc 02-26-12 08:13 PM

formula track hubs use the same spoke length on all 4 sides.

Scrodzilla 02-26-12 08:18 PM

What are hubs? You mean the round thing in the middle of the tire that the frames connect to?

Bravo!

And I found the ERD of the Weinmanns. it's 581mm.
