shorts? er, well, my pants were almost shorts when one pantleg got caught on the chainring.
everyone here gets excited over this kind of weather...breaking out the giant coats, scarfs, beanies, and sweaters upon sweaters.

I've been rockin out with the temp in the teens and low twenties the last couple of days. I'm ready for winter. BRING IT ON!!
Oh, and as a former midwesterner, those are the real heroes. We got it easy over here compared to the frozen plains.

at least midwesteners and new englanders have decent snow removal programs, here in maryland we have little better than a big pick up truck with a shovel duct taped to the front... stoopid budgeting issues...

Think again. Detroit stopped snow removal except on a few key routes a few years back. But then that's D-town, and that's like a whole other country... Or planet.

I know and worked with some folks in Detroit. I even got a tour from the mayor's office through the trailer park on 8 Mile Road that was the setting for Rabbit's trailer in the movie. I won't slag Detroit, it's a rough scene. I've worked with community based organizations in some of the most disadvantaged parts of the city and it's pretty wild. It's hard to believe that it's the US. I've worked in East St. Louis and I thought nothing could compare until I went to Detroit.

Anyhow, off topic.

I have great respect of you hard core people in the north too. I live in SW VA and I have been freezing my ass off the past few days. It's been in the 20's when I've been riding. Today I commutted to work/school and it was 16 degrees. Luckily I have a pretty short commute. Brrr...

This past week it has been "cold" in otherwise Hotlanta. I checked the weather one morning and it said that it was 36 but felt like 19. That's rough for someone who has lived her/his whole life in Georgia. And my point is...and my point is...I have no point?
I too respect you northern winter fg riders.
I also respect ya'll in the summer. The love is 365 days a year.

I don't own enough clothes to go out today, the windchill is physically dangerous.
If I put on that much insulation, it's just not comforable to ride.
I've pretty much put my bike away for the winter. Oh well, spring is coming.

WEAK Appledude! I was out in Philly chilly every day (and night) this week. Don't give in to the cagehead mentality, let alone take, gasp, THE BUS.

so far it's been a mild winter here in southeastern michigan. tuesday it was not quite 20 °C and i wore a ski helmet and goggles and was warm as toast. the quiet was nice, too, as was the orange outlook afforded by the goggles. when i look down and see all that salt and grit and crap spraying up onto my bike, i'm glad not have any fussy cables or derailluers down there to clean every day.
detroit's snow removal policy reflects 1) lack of money and b) relatively little snowfall. i think they will midify things a bit when the superbowl is in town...

Here we are having the usual drizzle every day at temps just over freezing. Dark when I get to work and dark when we leave. Even walking is dangerous when visibility is less than ten feet. Biking is weekends only for me for another month. In February the daffodils flower and the world is a cheerier place.

ici, that's really sad.
if I lived in that, I'd be listening to Polyphonic Spree everyday to prevent depression.

22f with a windchill of 6f as I head out the door to go work for a few hours or 5. Sad it is that winter is here but not really here yet. I like it though, cold beats heat in my book. Plus what I'll go through this winter is nothing compared to my buds in Edmonton, Calgary, Montreal.
Don't let winter keep you in! For those who don't want to ride in bulky clothes, Don't! Thin layers keep you feeling finer anyway.
