Your bike is definitely too small for you. What size is it? How tall are you?

Looks like your saddle is a bit high. Maybe 1cm. But, the bike frame is a bigger deal.

Spoonrobot 03-24-12 10:22 PM

Saddle is too high. Bike looks too small. Socks and sandals.

ambitions2o 03-24-12 10:40 PM

Thanks for the quick answers. It is the 47 cm frame (I thought that was the right size from the stand over test). I am 5'9.

That bike was made for a 5 foot tall girl.

big time. lol. May i recommend a fit calculator?

ambitions2o 03-24-12 10:48 PM

Ha. After I pull my head from the wall.

Yeah I will be doing that tomorrow along with listing that on Craigslist. I did a bad job on reading up on this I guess.

Nagrom_ 03-24-12 10:53 PM

You should be on a 54ish based on what you've said. DONT GO AND GET A 54 BECAUSE I SAID THIS.

Im just putting you in the ballpark. use the fit calc that Jaytron posted on the first page.

Get a 54 after the calc tells you to.

I'm going to get a 54 because you said so. Thanks.

Ha, yeah I will check the measurements tomorrow and see what it spits out. Thanks for the help,,

^isn't your kilo a 50? and aren't you a few inches taller than him?

47CM isn't a standard 47CM with Kilos, right? it's more like a 49-50? I haven't been on a kilo in over a year so I can't remember their funky sizing

Either way, the bike is too small unfortunately regardless on that little detail. The directions bikesdirect gives people on ordering a size is a bad one to follow, but seeing how much steerer tube he has left I kinda feel like he could make it work with a long stem if he was strapped for funds and absolutely had to

I'm guessing he needs a 51-52 kilo if that sizing difference is right?

the 47cm kilo has a 513mm TT.

My guess is he needs a 53cm, with a TT of 548mm.

carleton 03-24-12 11:34 PM

OK. Here's what you do.

Spend tomorrow afternoon at a bike shop and test ride 1 or 2 ROAD bikes. Write down the make, model, and size of them and let us know which ones fit well. Chances are you are like a 54-55cm.

And don't get down on yourself. We are just giving you a hard time. It's an honest mistake and a common one. You still have options. You can either sell that bike and buy a new one. But, selling a 47cm will be very hard. Or you can buy a new frame and move the components over.

Yes. This is not even an exaggeration.

ambitions2o 03-25-12 09:19 AM

Eh, it gives me an excuse to upgrade to something new which I always like.

I will head over to the bike shop this afternoon Carleton, thanks, and will try out a few of the road bikes. However, before I do that, I am going to do something I should have did before and have my buddy help measure me up for the fitment calculator. Then I will head over to the shop and go from there.

I live in NYC, so I guess I have a decent chance of selling this frame. If not, I will figure out what to do. Measurements first.

I have short legs and arms. That being said, Mucky now owns my Kilo. I could fix the fitment with a longer stem, but the handling got all wonky so we traded. All my bikes have a 53ish TT. My roadie has one, and it fits perfectly (although the HT and ST angles are different), so I did the whole "size down a bit on the track bike" which felt fine for a bit, but for longer rides started to feel cramped.

Nagrom_ 03-25-12 10:44 AM

That peaked my interest. How does the steering change with stem length? I mean I know how, but there is a notable difference?

Going from the stock 90mm stem with the Kilo geo, felt weird when I went to a 120mm stem.

ambitions2o 03-25-12 11:40 AM

So here are my measurements using Jaytron's link (thanks). Off to the LBS to see what they have to say.

*piqued.

Stem length changes are noticeable but pretty easy to adjust to for me. My theory is that handling differences have more to do with the way it changes weight on front wheel than the way it changes distance from center of steerer tube to hands.
