About to purchase Kilo TT Pro as 1st fixed gear
So here goes. About to order the Kilo TT Pro as my first fixed gear. I sold my Trek 7.6 FX to my best friend who is doing triathlons and needed something to be able to race with. I was using it to ride around the neighborhood and things like that. Def not to it's potential and he was in the market. I bought it for 800 and let it go for 600. Going to grab the pro for 450. I figure it is a good place to start and learn the ins and outs of the fixed gear world!
I've never owned a fixed gear (not counting my learning bikes and things as a kid with old school BMX) so hopefully after reading lots on here I have made the right choice as a starter bike. If not, then people on here lie! As time goes on and I learn more about it then perhaps I will fall in love and grow in my knowledge and understanding and end up with something nicer. Who knows. Maybe I'll hate it, but I see that as highly unlikely.
I'm thinking the 55 is what I want based on the measurements I got from using the calc.
What do the board gods think? I've always hit the LBS when purchasing bikes, but as of right now I don't have the time to do it. I'll be out of town for a little bit and want to have this sitting at home waiting for me to assemble and play with when I get back.
Here we go!

I went with the Kilo being as it's a first, and I don't have to worry about winter months here in South Florida. I have also read about the SST AL being a little harsher ride (obviously this is all taken with a grain of salt). I see this as being a long time affair and not just a fad for me. Ideally at some point I'll be the one helping recommend bikes on here and not asking for the beginner advice like now. That means that perhaps a second beater later down the line will be the SST AL just to play with. Thing is, you can't harp over it too much. If for some reason I don't really like the TT Pro then I'll sell it and try something else. It seems as there is always a good market for used bikes just about everywhere.
People are too worried about hitting something dead on the first time. I've done enough stuff and bought enough things to know that isn't always the case as much as we try. I feel that I'm relatively well informed on it, and I'll learn more as time goes on.
I just try and enjoy the ride. And yes, the pun was intended.

the bfssfg bikedirect sales office commends you on making the correct decision. however, do not attempt to renege on your commitment. purchase a kilo as you promised or risk being shunned
but you are making a very good decision by getting a fg bike to ride around here in sunny ft lauderdale since it is flat as my 1st girlfriend was. hell, i go out of my way to ride over 17th st bridge just to feel what it's like climbing a "hill" once in a while.
have fun & good luck...
