what size chain do I want to run with this cog?

No one can tell from that photo. But you can tell.

Take a 3/32" chain and lay it over the cog, if it fits on the cog do the same thing with the chainring. If it doesn't fit on BOTH, use a 1/8" chain.

It looks like a 3/32" cog to these eyes.

Thanks gents. I had an 8 speed chain laying around and it appears to work. I did however stop at the bike store earlier thinking it was a 3/32 cog, and grabbed a 3/32 chain, which I can now return. So an 1/8 chain will only work with an 1/8 cog, but 3/32 is universal with the exception of a 10 speed?

1/8" chain will work on either a 1/8" or 3/32" cog & chainring.

3/32" chain will only work on 3/32" components.
