Help me out with Pedals and Double straps
So I'm looking for some new pedals, double straps.
I don't really the look of the MKS Gr-9's and I don't like the Sylvan's because the middle is silver. What're some good all black pedals under $35 that can fit double straps easily? I've thought of getting the origin 8 Pro Track Light's but people don't seem to like them. Also, what kind of double straps should I get? I'm stuck between the leather double straps from Retrogression: http://www.retro-gression.com/produc...-double-straps The laminated leather double straps from Retrogression: http://www.retro-gression.com/produc...-double-straps And the Eighthinch leather double straps from eBay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/EIGHTHINCH-D...ht_2730wt_1344 Which are the most durable and worth the money? |
The pedals really depend on the bike.

You might as well go with black BMX platform pedals with foot retention straps than pedals like MKS Sylvans + Cages + Straps.
|
Custom Nuevos, Toshi Double Straps, and some plastic double strap clips (star****ers and All-City are nice).
Unless you go clipless, chances are that you won't have to buy anything else for pedal systems. My sylvans are literally falling apart, and since the bodies are riveted and not threaded, there's nothing I can do. I would buy Nuevos and all that now, but I might as well go clipless if I spend this much on new pedal systems. Mavic shoes + Dura Ace pedals are most likely what I'm going with. |
I have the All-City pedals, and have put 1500+ miles on them, a good portion of which was through a Chicago winter, and they're still fine. I had the Origin8 leather doubles (same as the A-C ones) and snapped them after four months. Go laminated on the doubles. I will say though, that I'm going to be going clipless in the near future. It's just better.

I own the double leather straps from Retrogression that you linked to first.
They're cheap and do their job but the sizing of the cutout doesn't fit my MKS GR-9's well so I plan on cutting a deeper slit. They also lose their rigidity, possibly due to rain. |
Laminated double straps are a significant improvement over the others. Do you just not like the look of the MKR GR-9 in general or because it's silver. They do have a black model....

Neither of the ones you listed; they're exactly the opposite of what you want.
These are the one's to get; go the extra step and you'll find exactly what you are asking for: http://www.retro-gression.com/produc...-double-straps |

I don't think he'll ever be able to live that down.
