Gatorskins are fantastic. I've ridden two 25c's for about 400 miles so far and not one flat! Peace of mind type of purchase at $50 a tire but well worth it IMO.

I like Panaracer Stradius. Not bad weight, better grip than Zaffiros or Dynamics, often around the same price.
Besides the three mentioned above, I've tried a couple of different Contis, some fancy $60 Vittorias, Hutchinson (can't remember model), Specialized Armadillos, Specialized Turbos, Schwalbe Marathons, Forte Stradas and a few others I can't remember. I don't skid and I run Mr. Tuffies in all my clinchers. |
Randonneur Pros in 32c. Michelin Citys in 40c. Both awesome; nothing but love.

I love my Randonneurs. The 25c allows higher PSI, but I use the 28c whenever I'm commuting through sketch stuff... bulk. I'd like to try Everwears one day. Those sound nice!

100% agree! I think I got about a month of ride time on mine until there was nothing left.
I'm looking forward to trying the Randonneur (and Rubino) as well as some Paselas. Ah well, I guess I'll just see how they do and get some Rando's next. |
schwalbe marathon pro's for everyday commuting etc.
schwalbe durano's for a bit of speed. seriously the most bombproof tires ever, especially if you skid or ride bad roads. |
Roadie (Speed): Vittoria Rubinos are my fav. Just the right combo of light, supple, and surprisingly flat resistant.
Fixed/Commuter(durability): I have a Panaracer T-Serve 25c on the front right now and it is super nice!!! a couple months and not a single flat, rolls nicely, pretty dadgum light. These might just me my new favorite allround tire. I would not hesitate to put them on my roadie! Also Gatorskins b/c light and tough (but at the end of its life my last gator got tons of flats.) MTB: Kenda Nevegal 2.35. These things are BEAST on my old Fat Chance! They make it ride like a FS bike, they really gobble up anything the trail has to offer! Slow on the hardpack singletrack though... oh well! Note: I hate the Rando I have on the back now. Many tyres are a pretty tight fit on my Sun M13II rims and Randos are pretty much the worst EVER. Ive only had one flat in 8 months but it took like 10 mins to get the dadgum thing offa the rim! Yes that is the sole reason for hating the tire. Its nice in every other way but NEVER AGAIN! (at least while i have those rims, which might be forever...) |
has anybody here ridden both conti hardshell gatorskins & gp 4000s?
if you have, which would you choose again? thanx... |
I have Gatorskins on my fixed and GP4000S on my road bike. I can't tell TOO much of a difference in ride feel (I'm pretty dense), but I will say that I haven't had any flats with my Gatorskins, whereas I've had three flats in a month on the GP4000S. Chalk it up to bad luck, bad tubes, or something else, but I like the Gatorskins for what I use them for, they weigh almost the same as the GP4000S (folding version), and they ride nice.
