The weather.

Riding in 100+ heat everyday is starting to irritate me.

what kind of weather are you guys seeing/riding in on average?

hamfoh 05-16-12 03:42 AM

once it revs up it'll be 100 heat with 100 humidity <~ houston

bfloyd6969 05-16-12 05:42 AM

Right now mid 70's in central Ohio - perfect!

GENESTARWIND 05-16-12 07:25 AM

now do those of you who ride, ride full time or just forfun? i generally ride full time except on the certain occasion where i am to hung over to be on my bike. THen i am forced to bus it.

broakland 05-16-12 07:29 AM

60-75 NYC = perfecto (unless it rains, then I take the bus)

In a couple weeks north Louisiana will be 100 degrees and 100% humidity until October. A few weeks ago it was already getting over 100, but lately it's gone back down to mid 80s. I didn't really have trouble riding in it, since I got a good breeze from the ride. As soon as I stopped at a stoplight though, I was instantly covered in sweat.

yesterday while riding, even at a good pace, head wind that felt like a blow dryer and 100+ heat. maybe im not as fit as i think but man i couldnt stop sweating plus i kept hitting reds. Jesus :|

hank0604 05-16-12 08:24 AM

I know what you mean. When it's that hot, a wind just feels like a convection oven. People around here (Louisiana) like to say that our humidity makes it worse here than other places, but I'm not so sure. I lived in Austin for a bit, where humidity was much lower but summer highs about 10 degrees warmer, and man, I noticed the extra heat more than the lower humidity.

Santaria 05-16-12 08:27 AM

Sweating is a sign of being "healthy."

I'm being punished daily with these mid-80s, s/se 15-20 temperatures here in the tropics. It's a tragedy.

I ride everywhere I possibly can now that school is out. My children are almost done with school too, so that means we'll (as a family) probably put 300-500 miles a week on the bikes between base mileage training in the mornings, commuting to work and general wanderlust with the kids.

You'll be floating around in Six Mile Creek any day now. I really need to get back to Ithaca sometime.

Word, every time IthaDan posts I get all nostalgic and want to go back. (Although, I wasn't a cyclist when I lived there. Those hills must be killer.)

IthaDan 05-16-12 09:48 AM

Come through any time scrod & misskaz. We'll take care of you.

There's no floating on six mile, it's all about the jumping (especially now that the rangers are clamping down, you have to get in as much as you can as fast as you can). That's why we float on the lake. Six mile's great this time of year, especially first dam off giles street, by the time the water gets there, it's been over three top release dams, so it's surprisingly warm.

The hills aren't that bad, hell, I've been embarrassing the roadie set on my fixed in the last couple days. You have to be strategic about your route, but the drivers are pretty decent, so you can spin away without some jackoff running you off the road.

Where in Seattle is that? I see Rainier peeking over the hill so you must be facing south.

Sacramento is perfect right now. Lows in the mid 50's and highs in the mid 80's. Perfection for riding.

I ride full time for the insurance benefits :) Nah, just joking - I'm a fitness rider, about 4 days a week.
