Fixed Gear On Rough Roads?

I'm going camping with family and I'm taking my fixed gear bike. I don't expect the roads to be that bad but I just want to be careful anyways.

Is there a threat of wheels or a frame cracking? What should I watch out for?
Advice riding on roads like this?

Thanks

Just like with any road bike on an off-road surface, you'll have to deal with the narrow tires slipping and the uneven terrain.

What problem will taking your bike solve?

Advice? Use a mountain or cyclocross bike.

Hm, I'd give advice, but first I think a picture of your bike would help.

Advantage: converted mountain bikes. :thumb:

Going at slow speeds will be a little bit tough. Unless you have thick tires, be aware of sharp items puncturing the tires as well.

The old girl likes it rough... 700:35 cross tyres help smooth things out a great deal.

Also a good idea... used to ride a fixed gear mountain bike for winter messenger work.

Was the bomb.

I've noticed that's it's not as easy to get off the saddle for potholes, etc. as it is with a freewheel. But that may just be me.

I have no problem going over rough pavement on 700x23's. Trick is to stay loose and float.

CamelDane 05-25-12 11:44 PM

^^^ I've ridden single track and fire roads with 23c tires, a low 60s gear inch makes everything easier to roll over

Please stop posting pictures of your bikes. I don't like to feel covetous.
