Pure Fix or Windsor Timeline
 

I'm looking to buy a new bike, and I've come to choosing between Pure Fix bike or a Windsor Timeline or Mercier Kilo.
I don't mind riding fixed or freewheeled.
But I was just wondering which bike has the best value?

I have a $400 limit. Any other bike recommendations would be nice!

Kilo or Windsor, their chromoly frames are better than hi-ten steel

+1 on either the Timeline or Kilo. However, I suggest that you find out if you prefer fixed or free. The two are completely different animals. If you don't know which you prefer yet, I recommend going with the Timeline. It comes with both front and rear brakes and freewheel. You will need to add your own fixed cog, but that is a relatively inexpensive add. Then you can flip the wheel around to see which you prefer to ride (or just having both is cool to give you a variety of riding style). Then, if you decide that fixed is not your thing and you prefer to ride free, then you already have the brakes.

I bought a Windsor The Hour and I am very happy with it, I probably would have went with a TT PRO if they had them in stock.

the constant refrain around here that a bikedirect chro-mo frame is automatically better than any hi-ten frame is not quite true. i suggest you take this post about a kilo wt from another thread into consideration...

I have a Timeline for commuting and utility, and it's a great bike.

I'm kind of leaning towards the Motobecane because you can put wider tires on them.

Get the Uno. You have more options than with the Kilo TT.

Keep in mind the Stripper has no water bottle mounts if that matters to you...

What is a pure fix? You can install a freewheel or fixed cog on any of these bikes. Pick the bike you like the best, then set it up how you want it. Try both.

Kilo's have a longer top tube. So 53's feel like 55's. And Windsor's have a shorter top tube. I personally like shorter top tubes.

Pure fix is the purest fixie ever built. And one should never pick the bike they like the best. This is how its done: ask a bunch of snobs on the internet what they think you should like and then get exactly that - even if you do not like the ride.

To the OP: He's actually right that I'm wrong about the Geo with the smaller frames. But he didn't have to be a jerk about it as some bikesforum singlespeed trollers are. But if you ride a larger frame, ya the top tubes are smaller.

Probably doesn't matter because the OP hasn't been asking about bikes for 2 months now.
