Now I can't sleep.

Be careful if you use a chain tool to join it and not the quick link. Because of the thick side plates, you need to have it lined up perfectly or you will break your tool.

Also, it won't fit in some chain tools. The little $10 Rivoli chain tool is the best thing to use.

I have the basic pro park chain tools for the 3/32 and the one for 1/8-3/16.

I've tried just about everything and the K710SL is definitely the quietest chain I've ever used.

I agree. Even quieter than the Izumi V.

I gave my Izumi V away to a teammate.

I've always wondered it if was worth the price tag. This answers my question.

Wish I was your teammate. Not sure if I've used the K710SL. I'll keep an eye out for it - if I ever need to replace the Izumi Vs.

This actually came up recently on a track racing forum: http://www.fixedgearfever.com/module...er=asc&start=0

Hahaha! He had hooked me up with lots of stuff prior.

710SL + EAI Cog = Silent Assassin

PC-1 = worst chain ever. never mind the sound, they break and break and break. re-read that chest-plant post a few back...i can think of a few other things i'd rather do.

i'm surprised by the nearly unanimous props for the 710SL. it'll be my next one for sure (510 currently). love the X10SL on the roadie...

for the commuters, i would like to mention the (stainless, KMC) S10. i've been using it on my SS mtb for a couple years and it is totally and completely bomb-proof. heavy as lead, but you can install it and never touch it again, and it will outlive the bike (save ti).

Funny, the PC-1 I have on the 930 is dead silent and (knocks on wood) hasn't broken yet.

Another +1 for the KMC 710. Hands down the best.
I've always bought the TI-N coated version but I'm starting to reconsider as the one that I've pulled from a track build after a single season and put on my commuter is starting to stretch beyond what it did initially during the break in period after a reasonably short amount of time.

Just the mention of that model number brings shivers down my spine and memories of a much earlier time at the intersection w/ my chrome pista where I nearly ceased to exist.

i'm very satisfied with my pc-7x chain. just recently removed if from the bike and cleaned it in a coke bottle. the thing looks brand new still, super shiny. been riding it everyday for 2 years through rain, snow, and everything else. no complaints.

@Six jours, those are some expensive chains you're talkin' haha. Too rich for my blood.

I paid $30 for my 710-SL at my local shop and that's about the most I think I can pay for a chain, considering what I use my bike for and how often I use it. This morning's commute was my first dance with the 710-SL and it's silent as far as I'm concerned. Might not be NAVY SEAL deadly ninja super stealth silent, but as long as I don't notice any noise - mission accomplished. I find noisy bikes to be distracting and obnoxious. Really ruins my whole experience.

Scrodzilla 06-08-12 06:53 AM

30 bucks???

Second the $30? I have a gold 710-SL on my 29er and it was only $17. I know local shops need money, but damn. Besides the shops around me are owned by idiots, never have what I need and want to order things at crazy mark up.

trrubicon06 06-08-12 07:07 AM

In the end a good chain usually costs good money. Look at some of the good road chain prices and then look at the $30 again.

Scrodzilla 06-08-12 07:17 AM

A KMC K710-SL is a good chain - and it should never cost 30 bucks.

broakland 06-08-12 07:18 AM

NJS stamped HKK Vertex or you're slow!

jvande7 06-08-12 07:31 AM

I was shocked at the $29 price tag myself. But then I looked around online and see that the red colored ones go for around $23. I like to support my local shop. It's literally 1 block from my apartment and that fact has saved my ass a number of times. If I need a tube or something, or my bike's disabled some other kind of way - I can grab what I need just a block away.

The really interesting thing is - when I got it home I was reading the box and on the back it had a price tag that said $9.99 on it. Heh, oops. I guess they forgot to take that off because my receipt said the exact item I bought KMC 710-SL Red and it was $28.99 plus tax.

jvande7 06-08-12 07:34 AM

Also kind of p1ssed off because I wanted plain silver and they didn't have it. So like I often do, I wasted money on something I didn't really want. I don't mind red, and it does match my bar tape and look slick and all... but I wanted regular silver. And still kinda do.

Danscomp is a popular and fairly priced website. That chain is $25.99 + $8.95 shipping for a total of $34.94. PLUS you would have had to wait almost a week for it to arrive.

You paid a fair price and you got it today. Don't complain.

I paid $28.08 (including tax) for the K710-SL at a local shop in Atlanta yesterday.
